Finnish phone manufacturer HMD Global launched its first Android flagship phone Nokia 8 last month, featuring a dual camera setup and high end specs. At the time of the launch, HMD Global only unveiled a single model with 4GB RAM/64GB ROM. However, an upgraded variant of Nokia 8 with 6GB RAM/ 128GB ROM was spotted on Federal Communications Commission(FCC)’s listing in the US. Reports suggest that the Nokia 8 could be launched in India next month.
HMD Global has complimented Nokia 8 with the ANT+ feature that allows you to view your sport, fitness, and health monitoring data in real-time on your mobile device. The listing on the FCC website shows that Nokia 8 with model numbers TA-1004, TA-1012, and TA-1052 received certification. While TA-1052 is the standard model that is currently being sold, TA-1004 and TA-1012 are supposedly the model numbers of the premium variant. HMD also confirmed that the new variant will hit Europe next month on 20 October. It will be retailing at €669 that is €90 more than its sibling.
Nokia 8 Specifications
To recall, the Nokia 8 comes with a 5.3-inch QHD (1440 x 2560 pixels) IPS LCD panel with support for ‘always-on-display’. The device is splash resistant with an IP54 rating. It runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. HMD has also promised that the Nokia 8 will be amongst the first few devices to receive the Android O update.
An octa-core Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 (4×2.45 GHz Kryo & 4×1.9 GHz Kryo) along with Adreno 540 GPU powers this device. Initially, the Nokia 8 was launched with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, but the new FCC listing with model numbers TA-1004 and TA-1012 suggest that it will come in a 6GB RAM and 128GB storage version as well.
In the camera department, the Nokia 8 houses a dual camera setup that consists of one 13MP monochrome sensor and one 13MP RGB sensor. Both cameras work in tandem to improve the overall picture clarity. It comes with a “bothie” mode lets you capture photos or videos simultaneously from front and rear cameras.
On the front, it features a 13MP sensor with autofocus. Both front and rear camera can shoot 4K Ultra videos, however, OIS is present only in the 13MP color sensor on the back.
A non-removable 3090 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support powers this device.
Connectivity options include dual-SIM, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Direct, GPS, Bluetooth, USB Type-C etc. A fingerprint sensor is embedded into the home button of the phone.
