Ever since the first iPhone was introduced to the world, the smartphones have looked mostly similar. Recently we have started seeing the trend of smaller bezels. But, overall all the phones still use the same touchscreen slate form factor. Now, it looks like ZTE will be pioneering something called foldable phone.
Android Authority shared images of an upcoming phone from ZTE, which will use a foldable form factor. According to their source, ZTE is set to launch a foldable dual-screen smartphone dubbed as the ZTE Axon M. Though the device was leaked previously also, known as the ZTE Axon Multy.
From what we can see in the images, the Axon M appears to be well designed, having a manageable thickness. the visible 3.5mm headset jack suggests that the phone could be under 10 mm thick). To be clear, the two displays themselves are not foldable, but the device is, thanks to what appears to be a hinge system.
The first ever foldable phone from ZTE will allegedly feature two 1080p displays. Which will, when the device is fully open, form a flat 6.8-inch display with 1920 x 2160 pixels. Interestingly, the two screens will likely have the ability to launch different apps at the same time, providing a multitasking experience.
As for hardware, an earlier report revealed that the phone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. It will pack 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage. It is expected to house a 3,120 mAh battery, which may prove a bit too small for two screens. For Imaging, rather than have a separate rear and front cameras, the device will feature a single 20-megapixel camera that will rotate to face either direction.
ZTE plans to hold a press conference on October 17 in New York. It is likely the Chinese smartphone could announce the phone there. Also, as earlier leaks claim, the new handset could be exclusive to AT&T in the US and priced around $650.
The smartphone industry always requires innovation, and ZTE looks like ready to provide the much-needed change. Earlier, there were reports that, Samsung which is also known for bringing in some new revolutions in smartphones is also planning to launch its foldable device dubbed as Galaxy X.
