The second major feature here is the background limits, which means there will be lesser battery usage and more optimization.

Notification channel gives you more control over your notifications rather than muting them and missing on important info. With this update, you will be able to control which activity in a particular app will be notified to you. For example, You can choose to mute ‘likes’ from an app and allow ‘tags’ to be notified.
The second feature of the update is not directly visible to you but will be a good one. Now, your Android Wear will be able to enjoy smoother processing and lesser battery loss as background limits are introduced now. Developers are directly told by Google to assume the apps will not work in the background without notification.
