Amazon introduces a new waterproof Kindle Oasis with bigger screen

Amazon has introduced a new version of its Kindle e-book reader – Kindle Oasis. The main highlight of the new Kindle is that is it waterproof and has bigger screen. The e-reader is already up for pre-orders in India and will start shipping from November 15. The new Kindle Oasis is priced at Rs. 21,999 for the 8GB model and Rs. 28,999 for the 32GB model.

Kindle Oasis is the latest addition in consumer devices from Amazon this year. Earlier last month the company has launched a whole new range of Amazon Echo gadgets. Now, the all-new Amazon Kindle has come with waterproofing feature which has long been a requirement for Kindle e-readers.

Amazon Kindle Oasis features

The new version of the Kindle Oasis comes with a six-week battery life and a brighter 7-inch screen with 300ppi pixel density. The screen is slightly larger than the previous model. For waterproofing, the Kindle Oasis is IPX8 rated, which means it should withstand immersion in over 1-metre of water.

Amazon is offering a 4G model for the cellular variant in the US, while in India, it’s offering a Wi-Fi + free 3G model. The company is partnering with Vodafone for 3G connectivity in India. However, the company says it will provide wireless coverage in over 100 countries and territories.

The new Kindle Oasis also has Bluetooth connectivity and integrates Amazon’s Audible service to stream audio books to wireless headphones or speakers. Amazon has also launched a new cover for the Kindle Oasis, which also converts into a stand. The water-safe fabric cover is priced at Rs. 2,999, and comes in Indigo, Charcoal and Sandstone colors, while the leather cover is priced at Rs. 3,999, and comes in Black or Merlot colors.

The 32GB (Wi-Fi + free 3G) version of new Kindle Oasis costs Rs. 28,999, while the base model which is without 3G capability and comes with 8GB of storage costs Rs. 21,999. The device is available for pre-order on Amazon.in and will go on sale from November 15.
