Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has just launched two new selfie-centric smartphones, the Xiaomi Redmi Y1, and the Redmi Y1 Lite here in India. These are selfie centric devices and with this, Xiaomi aims to compete with the likes of Oppo and Vivo. Both come with a 16MP front-facing camera with a Selfie flash.
While this is the first time Xiaomi has launched a selfie-centric smartphone, they’ve taken care of the other specifications too. The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 comes with a 5.5-inch display, Snapdragon 435 processor, 3GB / 4GB RAM and 32GB / 64GB internal storage. The Y1 Lite is a more affordable variant with Snapdragon 425 processor and 2GB RAM.
Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Specifications
Since it is a selfie-centric device, let us start with the cameras this time. The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 sports a 16MP front-facing camera with selfie flash. At the back, the device features a 13MP primary camera.
With a plastic build, the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 features a 5.5 inch HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. On the back of the phone, you will find a fingerprint sensor below the camera. It is a fast sensor and lets you unlock your phone quickly.
Coming to hardware, the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 comes with a Snapdragon 435 octa-core processor. This processor is accompanied by up to 3GB / 4GB RAM and 32GB / 64GB internal storage. You can use a microSD card to expand storage up to 128GB. It comes with a dedicated microSD card slots.
Packing the latest MIUI 9, the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 comes with Android 7.1.1 Nougat. While Android updates on Xiaomi phones are slow, they keep the MIUI updated to keep providing new features on your phone. Tha latest MIUI 9 also comes with software optimizations that allow smoother app switching and multitasking.
Powered by a 3,080 mAh battery, the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 is a Dual SIM 4G VoLTE compatible smartphone. Other connectivity options on the phone include Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, IR blaster, Micro USB port and a 3.5mm earphone jack.
Xiaomi Y1 Lite Specifications
Coming to the more affordable Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Lite, you get the same display and cameras as the Xiaomi Redmi Y1. The difference lies in the hardware here. With the Redmi Y1 Lite, you get a Snapdragon 425 processor, 2GB RAM with 16GB internal.
There is also expandable memory via microSD card up to 128GB. The battery is also the same 3,080 mAh unit.
Pricing and Availability
The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 will be available in two variants. The 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage are priced at Rs. 8,999 and the 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage variant has been priced at Rs. 10,999. The Redmi Y1 Lite is priced at Rs. 6,999.
Both phones will be available as Amazon exclusives from November 9. Apart from this, the device will also be sold via Xiaomi preferred partners, Mi Home stores and Reliance Digital.
