OnePlus 5T Release Date & Specs: What we know so far

Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus is gearing up to launch its latest flagship device, the OnePlus 5T. The successor of the OnePlus 5 is expected to come with similar specifications and a revamped design. Let’s take a look at everything we know so far about the next flagship killer from OnePlus.

Initially, there were rumours that OnePlus is cancelling the 5T and going to launch OnePlus 6. Soon, this leak was proven to be wrong and now we have November 16 as the expected launch date for the OnePlus 5T. Mentioned below are leaks as well as official information that we have about the phone.

OnePlus 5T: Everything We Know

OnePlus 5T Official Information

Starting with the official information first, OnePlus has confirmed the name OnePlus 5T, which is a good news. In a post on the OnePlus forum, OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau stated that the OnePlus 5T will have a 3.5mm earphone jack.

OnePlus 5T Leaks and Speculations

The OnePlus 5T is expected to be an overhaul of the OnePlus 5, just like the OnePlus 3T was to the OnePlus 3. Leaked press renders suggest that the OnePlus 5T will come with a 6-inch full HD+ display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9 with minimal bezels.

The next thing revealed about the upcoming device were its cameras. An AnTuTu Benchmark screenshot of the device tipped the device to feature a 20MP + 20MP dual camera setup. However, we think that the leak is incorrect as according to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 835 processor supports up to 16MP dual cameras only. However, we can expect a beefed up camera setup on the OnePlus 5T.

Coming to hardware, the leaked AnTuTu screenshot suggests a Snapdragon 835 processor coupled with Adreno 540 GPU. This combination may be coupled with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage, or 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variants. Just like the OnePlus 5, the OnePlus 5T is expected to skip expandable storage. These leaks seem to be true as these specifications are top-notch and well suited for the OnePlus 5T.

In terms of OS, we can expect the device to run Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box, backed by a refreshed OxygenOS. We can safely say so as the Oreo update for OnePlus 5, OnePlus 3, and OnePlus 3T is already there. OxygenOS may also be optimized to utilize the 18:9 aspect ratio on the OnePlus 5T.

Other Expected Features

While there are many features surrounded by rumours now, there are some features we expect to be upgraded in the OnePlus 5T. To start with, the device may get a bigger battery compared to its predecessor. Also, an IP certification for water and dust resistance will make the phone more durable. Among software tweaks, we are expecting an Always-On display.
