After a recent case of a JioPhone misfire, there is now another case where a swollen battery has been reported on a Reliance JioFi. While reporting this case, we came across more cases of swollen JioFi batteries.
The alleged Reliance JioFi 2 was purchased by Delhi resident Mr. Radhe Krishan in March. He says the device was malfunctioning and disconnecting time to time. Upon removing the back panel for rebooting the JioFi, he found out that the battery was swollen.
Not the first time for a JioFi 2 battery

The matter came to our attention when Mr. Radhe Krishan took to Facebook about the swollen JioFi 2 battery. When we reached him for details, he told us that he had never used a local or third-party charger on his device.
On the swollen battery, the owner says ‘one morning when I failed to connect to WiFi, I thought of rebooting the device and there it was’. This incident points to the lack of safety indicators on the JioFi. Also, upon thorough lookout on the web, we noticed that there were other cases of swollen battery on the same model.
There is a Reddit thread where several users have shared the same issue about their JioFi 2 battery. The users claim that the battery was swollen to an extent that it popped the back panel.
Another case is coming from go-geek.com where they have posted the images of a JioFi 2 model with swollen battery. In the images posted by them, the battery has swollen up and cracked the back panel. While the JioFi battery comes with only 6 months of warranty, it seems useless as the damage is done only after 6 to 8 months of the device purchase.
While safety standards must always be high for any device, the Reliance JioFi 2 seems to be violating them. Not one or two but multiple cases of the same JioFi model (JioFi 2) have surfaced on the internet in the last few months.
Many users have reported a degrading battery and poor connectivity within 6 to 8 months of purchasing the device. With alarming cases of smartphone misfires, we need to question the hardware quality of the Reliance JioFi 2.
