Flipkart Billion Capture+ vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 4: Specs, features comparison

Flipkart launched its first ever smartphone dubbed as Billion Capture + earlier this month. The first phone from the e-commerce company is a budget device and packs some good specifications, with the price starting from Rs. 10,999.

Flipkart has priced its first phone aggressively just like Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi does with its budget devices. Billion Capture+ with its features, specifications, and pricing is a good competitor for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4. The most popular device from Xiaomi was also launched in January this year and packs similar specs when compared to the latest Billion Capture+.

Both the devices have a lot common in terms of features and specifications. Since Xiaomi has already established itself in India strongly, Flipkart being new entrant may face tough competition. Here is our Billion Capture+ vs Redmi Note 4 comparison to find out which smartphone offers more value for your money.

Design and Display

Flipkart followed the trend of metallic body and the Billion Capture+ is made of metal, glass, and plastic. The back is covered in metal with plastic on the top and bottom for antenna bands. The design looks fairly similar to that of the Redmi Note 4.

On the front, the Billion Capture+ sports a 5.5-inch IPS LCD HD display. The display comes with 2.5D curved glass with chamfered edges and protected by Dragontrail glass. It has USB Type C port and speaker grills at the bottom and a 3.5mm earphone jack on the top.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 also brings a similar design and display. The Redmi Note 4 sports a premium metal back with diamond cut antenna strip. It sports 5.5-inch Full HD display with an IPS LCD panel and thanks to the 2.5D curvature, it also looks premium. The Redmi Note 4 also has speakers at the bottom, micro USB port and has a 3.5mm headphone jack on top.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4

Now, if we talk about design and display comparison, both the phones seem to offer a similar experience. Design wise also they both feature unibody metal design with subtle antenna bands. So, this is a tie between both the devices.

Hardware and Storage

The Billion Capture+ is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor with an Adreno 506 GPU. Memory wise it offers 3GB or 4GB of RAM and either 32GB or 64GB of storage. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 has the same Snapdragon 625 processor in India. Redmi Note 4 also offers the similar RAM and storage as well. Both the devices also support a microSD card slot for expandable storage up to 128GB.

Here again, it is definitely a tie between both phones because of similar hardware and storage.

Camera

The Billion Capture+ is the first phone from Flipkart and they have opted for the dual rear camera in it. It sports two 13MP sensors with f/2.0 aperture and among which one is a regular RGB sensor and other is a monochrome sensor. Other features include dual tone LED flash and PDAF. The dual cameras offer a good bokeh effect. On the front, there is an 8MP sensor.

Flipkart Billion Capture+ rear camera

On the other hand, Xiaomi hadn’t adopted the dual camera trend with Redmi Note 4 back then. The rear camera on Redmi Note 4 is a 13MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture, dual-LED (dual tone) flash, phase detection autofocus, HDR, panorama. There is a 5MP camera with f/2.0 aperture on the front.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4

Coming to the comparison, as for the rear cameras, it is safe to say Billion Capture+ has an edge over the Redmi Note 4 because of its dual camera setup. Billion Capture+’s dual camera can capture better images than a single camera in all lighting conditions. The front camera is not that much different, still, Billion has an 8MP front sensor which puts it ahead of the Redmi Note 4.

Overall, in camera department Billion Capture+ is the winner.

Software

The Billion Capture+ runs Android Nougat 7.1 out of the box. Moreover, Flipkart has also promised that it will soon get Android Oreo 8.0. While on the other hand Redmi Note 4 was launched with Android Marshmallow 6.0 with Xiaomi’s custom MIUI 8 on top and running the same until now. Notably, it recently started receiving MIUI 9 update based on Android 7.0 Nougat, but it won’t get the Android 8.0 Oreo update.

On the other hand, the Billion Capture+ is expected to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update in the coming months.

The stock Android experience and Android Oreo update promise makes Billion Capture+ the winner here.

Battery and Connectivity

Unlike Xiaomi, Flipkart hasn’t put a big battery in Billion Capture+. It has a 3,500mAh battery that should offer a day of use. The Billion Capture+’s battery also supports fast charging and Flipkart claims it can offer 7 hours of battery life with 15 minutes of charging. It also features a USB Type-C port.

The Redmi Note 4 packs a massive 4,100mAh battery but doesn’t support fast charging.

The Redmi Note 4 seemingly wins in the battery department because of bigger size of the battery, still, Billion’s battery capacity is also sufficient enough.

Price

The Billion Capture+ starts at Rs. 10,999 in India for the 3GB/32GB model and the 4GB/64GB model goes up to Rs. 12,999.

Xiaomi interestingly announced a permanent price cut of Rs. 1000 on the Redmi Note 4 in India. The 3GB/32GB version of Redmi Note 4 is now available for Rs. 9,999 and the 4GB/64GB model is available for Rs. 11,999.

It’s noticeable that Redmi Note 4 wins the price war by a slight margin, that too because of the recent price cut. Still, Rs. 1000 may not be such big amount to change one’s mind.

Conclusion

Billion Capture+ and Redmi Note 4 compete in all areas very closely. They both offer similar design and displays. Also, in terms of hardware and storage, they are identical. Now, the decisive section is the camera, in which Billion Capture+ seems to be taking the lead because of its dual camera setup. Also, in the software section, Billion Capture+ has an edge over Note 4, thanks to stock Android.

So, overall the stock Android experience, a secondary camera at back, and a premium metallic body are a few features which make Billion Capture+ a good competitor to the Redmi Note 4. So, if you are not a Xiaomi fan, Flipkart’s phone could be a better alternative for you.
