Apple iPhone SE 2 launching in early 2018, will it be Made in India?

Apple is reportedly preparing to launch the iPhone SE 2 in early 2018, becoming the successor to the low-end iPhone SE that was launched back in 2016. This new model will also be manufactured by Taiwanese original design manufacturer Wistron at its Bengaluru factory that produces the iPhone SE.

According to a report by Taiwanese Economic Daily News, Apple will launch the iPhone SE 2 in the first quarter of 2018. To recall, the original iPhone SE was also launched in March last year. Further, the report suggests that the new model is already in production at Wistron’s Bengaluru facility.

This Bengaluru factory was established for assembling iPhone SE models earlier this year under Make in India campaign. The local manufacturing helps Apple to set an affordable price of the iPhone SE in India and the trend seems to continue with the next iPhone SE version. It is said to cost $450 (Rs. 29,200 approx.), which would be significantly cheaper than the iPhone SE’s launch price.

According to the FDI policy of India, foreign companies that make any goods in the country need to source 30 percent of their components from India. So, the iPhone SE 2 is likely to be touted as “Made in India” iPhone. Further, the report also adds that apart from India the iPhone SE 2 will be targeted at markets like Indonesia and the rest of Southeast Asia.

If we talk about specifications, as per some other recent reports, the display of the iPhone SE 2 is likely to be identical to its predecessor that has a 4-inch panel. Hardware wise, the iPhone SE 2 will feature Apple’s A10 Fusion chip that was launched with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus last year. Further, it will be coupled with 2GB of RAM and 32GB to 128GB storage options. For imaging, iPhone SE 2 is rumored to feature a 12MP rear and a 5MP front camera. It will pack a 1700mAh battery.
