Oppo A79 launched with full screen display: Price, specs and features

Chinese smartphone maker Oppo has announced the latest mid-range smartphone in the A-series in its home country, dubbed as the Oppo A79. The phone has a 6-inch full HD+ 18:9 full-screen AMOLED display with 86% screen-to-body ratio and a 16MP selfie camera. The phone is priced at 2,399 yuan (Rs. 23,400 approx.) and available for pre-order in China.

Oppo had recently launched three new full-screen display phones in China including the Oppo F5 that was also launched in India earlier this month. Now, the Oppo A79 has almost similar specifications to the OPPO F5, including a MediaTek Helio P23 processor, and 16MP rear camera and face unlock feature which Oppo claims to be as fast as 0.18 seconds.

Coming to the detailed specifications, the latest Oppo phone features a 6-inch FHD+ (2160 × 1080 pixels) 18:9 ratio full-screen AMOLED display with 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Dimension wise it measures 157.3 x 76 x 7.2mm and weighs 140g.

Oppo A79 is powered by a 2.5GHz Octa-Core MediaTek Helio P23 processor with Mali G71 MP2 GPU. Memory wise, it packs 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage which is expandable up to 256GB with microSD card. The dual SIM phone runs Android 7.1 Nougat with ColorOS 3.2.


For imaging, the phone sports a 16MP rear camera with LED flash and f/1.8 aperture. Up front, there is a 16MP secondary camera with f/2.0 aperture. There is a fingerprint sensor below the rear camera module for security.

Connectivity options on the phone include, 3.5mm audio jack, FM Radio, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS + GLONASS. The phone packs a 3000mAh built-in battery with VOOC flash charge support.

Pricing and Availability

The OPPO A79 is priced at 2,399 yuan (Rs. 23,400 approx.). The phone comes in Champagne Gold, Black and Blue color options and is now available for pre-order in China and shipping to start from December 1. There is no word on its availability in India.
