Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Android 8.0 Oreo Alpha testing begins: How to enroll

After the rollout of Android Oreo beta ROM for Redmi 5A, the company is now recruiting Alpha testers for the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. The company’s 2017 flagship will soon be receiving an update to Android 8.0 Oreo.

While Beta testing is still safer, Alpha ROMS are highly prone to bugs and crashes. Also, only the Chinese ROM is available for Alpha testing of Android 8.0 Oreo on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. If you enroll and get selected, you will get the latest MIUI 9 update based on Android 8.0 Oreo on your Mi Mix 2.

For the uninitiated, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is the company’s 2017 Mi Mix flagship. The device comes with a ceramic and aluminum build, and a nearly bezel-less display. It was launched back in September in Beijing, China and was soon introduced in India.

Now Xiaomi is recruiting Alpha ROM testers for Android 8.0 Oreo ROM of the Mi Mix 2. If you own this handset and are running the Chinese ROM, you have to fulfill certain criteria to become an Alpha tester. Once you’re selected, your device will update to Android 8.0 Oreo along with the latest compatible MIUI skin.

How to become an Alpha tester

For now, the update is rolling out for MIUI China ROM, so if you’re not running that, you’ll have to apply to be a member of the MIUI China Alpha Team. You can apply to be a member of the team till 23:59 24th. Dec 2017 (Beijing Time). If you’re selected, you’ll receive a personal message in the MIUI forum app.

To apply, install the MIUI Forum app on your Mi Mix 2. On the Home page, go to Recruitment > Mi Mix 2. Fill the form that opens on your screen and write, “Applying to test China ROM” in the comment box. If your application is selected, you will get a message on the MIUI forum app about the update.
