Nokia 6 gets Android 8.0 Oreo beta update: Here is how to install it

HMD global has started rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo beta update for the Nokia 6, as per its schedule. The beta update is available via Nokia phones beta labs and the beta testers can be able to test the Android 8.0 Oreo on Nokia 5 before the stable update rolls out.

The Nokia phones manufacturer company has been rolling out the Oreo beta update for its whole range of smartphones. Earlier, HMD Global’s Chief product officer Juho Sarvikas has announced the beta update rollout for Nokia 5 last week and now he announced the same for Nokia 5 as well. Similarly, like earlier beta updates, Nokia 5 users will need to sign up for Nokia phones beta labs to get the update.

How to install Oreo beta update on Nokia 6

The Oreo beta update for Nokia 5 has version number 5.140 and is 1140.4MB in size. The beta update also includes Android security update for December 2017.

In order to get the update for your Nokia 6 phone, you will have to join the Nokia phones beta labs and create an account and validate your device by entering the IMEI number. You can sign up for the Nokia Phones Beta Labs from here.


Now, when you are done with the sign in and validating process, you will get the beta update as an Over-The-Air (OTA) update which might take up to 12 hours to activate. The beta testing program also offers the option to roll back to Android Nougat if you don’t want to continue the beta testing.

Nokia phones beta labs offer Android Oreo beta for Nokia 6 in all countries except Myanmar. If you face any issue in signing up for Beta labs with your Nokia 6, you can go to settings -> system -> system update and make sure you have updated to latest software with Dec security patch.

Nokia which was launched in MWC 2017 back in February, comes with features like 5.5-inch HD display, packs up to 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. It is powered by Snapdragon 430 processor and currently runs on Android Nougat 7.1. The Oreo update will bring several new features to Nokia 6.

Android 8.0 Oreo range of features include Picture-in-Picture (PIP) mode, notification dots, Wide-gamut color for apps, Adaptive icons, Companion device pairing, Keyboard navigation, AAudio API and more.
