Has Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 5 as the Redmi 5 Plus?

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has apparently launched its successor to the Redmi Note 4 in the form of Redmi 5 Plus. There has been no announcement from the company regarding this and the information comes from a Super Moderator of the MIUI Forum.

During an unboxing post on the MIUI forum, the Super Moderator mentioned that “Xiaomi has finally decided to release the Redmi Note 5, wait!!! I heard it’s called the Redmi 5 Plus? No kidding?? There was a name change? Well yes, folks, the 2 new Redmi Note-sized phones are named Redmi 5 for the 5.7″ and Redmi 5 Plus for the 5.99″.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus 1If the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is indeed the Redmi Note 5, then it should come to India soon. Starting with the display, the device comes with a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display with 2160 x 1080p resolution. The device runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat with MIUI 9.0.3 skinned on top.

In terms of optics, the device features a 12MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and dual tone dual LED flash. There is also a 5MP front-facing camera with selfie flash, 1080p video recording and Smart Beauty 3.0. The phone is equipped with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for quick unlocking.


Coming to hardware, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is powered by a Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. This combination is complemented by 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB internal storage. You can also use a microSD card to expand the storage up to  128GB.

Packing a big 4,000 mAh battery, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is a dual SIM 4G VoLTE smartphone. Standard connectivity options on this phone include WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, Micro USB port, and a 3.5mm earphone jack.
