Vodafone to start rolling out VoLTE services starting from January 2018

Vodafone, India’s second largest telecom operator has announced the roll-out of its VoLTE services starting January 2018. The VoLTE services will allow Vodafone customers to experience HD quality voice calls over its 4G network.

Initially, Vodafone VoLTE service will be available in Mumbai, Gujarat, Delhi, Karnataka, and Kolkata. The services will be extended across the country in a short time as per the company. Vodafone 4G customers can make 4G calling without any additional charges and all they need is a 4G handset that supports VoLTE.

Announcing Vodafone VoLTE service, Sunil Sood, Managing Director and CEO, Vodafone India, said,

Vodafone is getting Future Ready with the advent of newer technologies and digital services. The introduction of Voice over LTE (VoLTE) will enhance customer experience with HD quality calling and offer our customers newer possibilities. Vodafone VoLTE is an important step towards introducing futuristic technology enhancing our Data Strong Network.”


Currently, Vodafone offers its 4G services in 17 circles and has around 46 million 3G and 4G subscribers. The operator has around 140,000 network sites, which includes around 128,000 3G/4G sites and these sites will enable better call quality and mobile internet experience to its customers.

Vodafone is the third telecom operator in India to launch VoLTE services. Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have already been offering 4G calling benefits to their subscribers. While Jio has a pan-India Volte network, Bharti Airtel has launched VoLTE services in select cities as of now. Airtel offers VoLTE in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Telangana, and Karnataka.

Airtel has also promised that it will cover all the 22 telecom circles it operates in by the end of FY18. Idea Cellular is also in the process of rolling out VoLTE services. The operator is also expected to commence the services in the first quarter of 2018.
