Amazon Alexa lands on Windows 10 PCs, launches on Acer, HP devices

After making a debut on Android and iOS in India, Amazon Alexa has now been launched for Windows 10 powered laptops. Making its debut at CES 2018, the AI assistant will be available across several brands in the coming days.

Companies integrating Amazon Alexa in their laptops include Acer, Asus, HP, and Lenovo in their latest range of laptops and desktops. Some of the new machines showcased at the CES also carried pre-installed Alexa app, which indicates the sure presence of Alexa as an assistant next to Microsoft’s own Cortana. Amazon Alexa app was recently launched in India for Android and iOS devices.

About Amazon Alexa

Amazon Alexa is a cloud-based artificial intelligence assistant. Launched first with the Amazon Echo speaker, the assistant is now available for a wide range of devices, now spreading to laptops as well. Alexa uses far-field voice recognition to answer the speech input of ‘Hey Alexa’.

It can tell you the weather forecast, read the news, play music, and even book you an Uber if you want. Not just this, Amazon Alexa is learning new things as developers add more skills to it. Backed by Amazon, Alexa can order groceries as well as items from Amazon on your demand. However, the features available in India are yet to expand to that level.

Laptops with Amazon Alexa

Amazon’s voice assistant is now going to be portrayed in the latest lineup of Acer, Asus, HP, and Lenovo. At the CES in Las Vegas, some of the laptops are showcased running Amazon Alexa pre-installed.

For Acer laptops, Alexa will roll out via software updates to Aspire, Spin, Switch, and Swift notebook models, as well as Aspire all-in-one PCs, starting the first quarter this year.

HP has also introduced the Pavilion Wave to offer clearer input and precise output for a smooth experience with Amazon Alexa. The Alexa-powered Pavilion wave will come later this year with a starting price of Rs. 34,930.
