How to Join WhatsApp Beta for Android

Google offers in-built beta testing process via Play Store and it is a quite easy process to get on the beta program for any Android app. There are simply two ways to do so – via a browser and directly through the Google Play Store.

How to become WhatsApp beta tester via browser

Here are the steps you need to follow to join WhatsApp beta for Android using a browser.


  • Open your browser and visit the WhatsApp beta test page on the Google Play website.
  • Log in to the Google account that you use on your Android phone.
  • Now, click on the button that says “Become A Tester”.

After becoming a tester from here, open Google Play on your phone and search for WhatsApp. When you open the app page you will see “WhatsApp Messenger (Beta)”. You should receive an update from WhatsApp that will take you to the beta version.

How to become WhatsApp beta tester via Play Store

You can follow these steps to join WhatsApp beta for Android using Google Play as well.

Open Google Play, and search for WhatsApp. Now, scroll down past the app description, images section to find the “Become a beta tester” button. Tap the button stating “I’m in”. It will ask you to choose “Join”. Again, you should receive an update for WhatsApp that will take you to the beta version.

The beta versions of any app get new features before regular users. The updates are issued much more frequently than regular app updates to beta testers. However, it can be annoying for some users as it also causes unexpected app crashes. So, if you’d like to avoid such issues, you must stay on the general WhatsApp.

How to opt out of WhatsApp beta program

The WhatsApp beta test program for Android is an optional program, so you can leave it as well whenever you want. If you have joined WhatsApp beta and are facing troubles with the beta version, you can go back to the stable one. You can do this from the browser or via Google Play Store.

Open the WhatsApp beta test page on the Google Play website.  Make sure you have logged in with the same Google account that you use on your Android device.  The page should have a section called “Leave the testing program” and you have to click it. The next page will show “You have left the test”.

Uninstall the current WhatsApp beta version from your phone, and then reinstall the public build of the app.

Similarly, to opt out via Play Store, open Goole Play and search for WhatsApp. Now, scroll down past the app description, images, and similar apps section to the “You’re a beta tester” button. Now, tap the button that says “Leave” and it will ask you to confirm. Now, uninstall the current beta version of WhatsApp, and then reinstall the stable build.
