Xiaomi Redmi 1S gets MIUI 9.2 update: New features and improvements

Showing their support for older devices, Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has released the MIUI 9.2 ROM based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat for the Xiaomi Redmi 1S. The phone is one of the oldest Xiaomi devices out there.

This will probably be the last update for the Xiaomi Redmi 1S. Based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat, this update comes with the version number V9.2.2.0.KHCMIEK. Apart from bringing overall stability to the device, the update has also brought refinements and new features to the phone.

To recall, the Xiaomi Redmi 1S was first launched in 2014 with MIUI 6 based on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. While the current availability of the device is questionable, it has been updated to Android 4.4.4 KitKat with MIUI 9. This update has added some new features to the phone along with overall stability.

The new features include a refined layout and brushed up themes with the fresh UI. It allows you to now create a block list varied on SIM cards. There is also a feature that allows you to hide messages and lock applications to safeguard your data. Contact search is also refined and a fresh lock screen, notifications bar, and Status bar are added to the Xiaomi Redmi 1S.


Talking about the specifications now, the phone features a 4.7 inch display with HD resolution and Asahi Dragontrail Glass for protection. You get an 8MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and an LED flash. It comes with a 1.6MP front-facing camera which can record up to 720p videos.

In terms of hardware, the Xiaomi Redmi 1S is powered by a Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.6GHz. This processor is coupled with 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage, along with up to 64GB expandable memory via a dedicated microSD card slot. The phone comes with a 2,000mAh battery and comes with Bluetooth, GPS, WiFi, Micro USB port, and a 3.5mm earphone jack as standard connectivity options.
