Samsung has finally started rolling out the stable Android 8.0 Oreo update to its last year’s flagships, the Galaxy S8 and S8+. The South Korean smartphone maker has just ended its Oreo beta program for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ after releasing the final Oreo beta firmware and has finally started rolling out the stable update for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ users starting from Germany.

As promised by Samsung, the update will first be available for beta testers followed by the regular users. Also, the update’s download size is just 487 MB which is smaller for the beta testers. The beta testers in Germany can now download the update manually by heading to Settings » Software update. The update with firmware version G955XXU1CRAP also comes with the latest February 2018 security patch.

The Android Oreo update brings a lot of new features to the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ including the newer version of the Samsung Experience UX 9.0. You can see many major changes and new features with the Experience 9.0.

Notification channels

The quick panel will now show notification channels and you can manage notifications for all the apps that are supported. The panel will also show app icons at the bottom for the notifications that aren’t visible. Moreover, the notification badges on app icons and in notifications panel are now synced. So, if you clear a notification from one place it will get cleared from other location too.

Dual Messenger

The much-needed Dual messenger feature will also be available with the latest update. The feature will allow you to run two supported apps in two instances simultaneously. You can add second space for the apps by heading to the system settings.

Improved performance

With Android 8.0 Oreo, the background services in Galaxy S8/S8+ are also being limited in order to save battery life and offer improved performance. Moreover, the Edge screen is now improved with better font size, color, and other settings to improve the visibility. Other improvements include AAC and Sony LDAC high-quality audio codec in Bluetooth, auto-repeat and 2X speed in the video player.

Samsung took almost two weeks to roll out the final version of Oreo after testing the beta versions. Also, as expected, the Oreo beta testers are the first in line to receive the update followed by the regular users who may get the update after 24 hours. The availability of the Oreo update On Galaxy S8/S8+ will expand in other regions very soon.
