Korean tech giant Samsung had recently launched the Samsung Galaxy On7 Prime as their latest budget offering in the Indian market. With an affordable price tag and decent specifications, the device is Samsung’s latest budget contender.
The device has been launched at a price tag of Rs. 12,990, making it a part of the budget segment in India. The device comes with a 5.5 inch full HD display and a metal build. We took this phone for testing and figured out the goods and bads in it. Here is our review of the Samsung Galaxy On7 Prime.

Physical overview
Starting with the back, you get metal build with plastic at the top and bottom. While a metal unibody would’ve been been better, this has been done for better network. The device comes with an Samsung branding near the centre and a single camera with flash at the top.
At the front, the device comes with a 5.5-inch display with the front-facing camera, earpiece, and sensors sitting at the top. Below the display, you get capacitive ‘Recent apps’ and ‘back’ key along with a clickable home button. This button doubles up as a fingerprint sensor.
At the bottom, there is a microphone, a Micro USB port, and a 3.5mm earphone jack.
At the right side, you get the lock button and speaker grille. This is not a textured button, which is a let-down.
To the left side, you will see the volume rockers, a SIM 1 + microSD tray, and a dedicated SIM 2 slot.
Display
The display is the one thing where Samsung does not let down and this one does well too. The Samsung Galaxy On7 Prime comes with a Full HD (1080 x 1920 pixels) display with 2.5D curved glass. While this is a bright and clear display, we think an AMOLED display would suit this device better.
Multimedia experience on this display is fluid, with snappy responsiveness to multiple touch input. We especially like the ‘Outdoor’ mode which gives a brightness boost for 15 minutes to use the device well in outdoor conditions. On the downside, there is no automatic brightness, which can be problematic at times.
Cameras
Talking about the camera specifications, the phone comes with a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and f/1.9 aperture. At the front, the device sports another 13MP sensor with the same f/1.9 aperture. The phone also comes with Samsung Mall, which is a good feature.
Camera UI
The camera UI on this phone is simple and easy to use. With the shutter button and video recording button side by side, it is easy to switch. You also get Samsung Mall feature, which shows relevant items if you click an image of something you see.
Camera Samples
Daylight Sample
With no stabilization, taking an image on the Samsung Galaxy On7 Prime may be slightly difficult. The images we took in daylight were bright and crisp. While the colour retention is good, the camera misses out on latest features like bokeh mode and portrait mode.
Artificial light sample
Coming to artificial light, the camera does a fairly well job. It is certainly not the best camera but considering the price, Samsung has a decent offering in terms of cameras on this phone.
Low Light sample
This is where the phone lets down slightly. Even with a f/1.9 aperture, the camera is unable to capture images without flash in low light. The flash firing, however, is pretty even and does a good job.
Hardware and performance
Talking about hardware, the Samsung Galaxy On7 Prime comes with a 1.6GHz Octa-Core Exynos 7870 processor with ARM Mali-T830 GPU. The phone has two RAM and storage variants, i.e. 3GB / 32GB and 4GB / 64GB. While this is not very powerful hardware, you can rely on it for a long-term consistent performance. The device is running a skinned version of Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

- Sensors
We ran certain benchmarks on the phone and the results were satisfactory. However, while playing Asphalt 8 on the device, we noticed a longer loading period and also certain frame skips. Also, the device comes with just 4 sensors.
Battery and Connectivity
The phone is powered by a 3,300mAh non-removable unit which provides for a full day of life for the device. In terms of connectivity, the device comes with dual SIM slots and a dedicated microSD card slot. It also comes with 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, and GPS.
Verdict
Concluding our review, we can say that the Samsung Galaxy On7 Prime is a decent phone in the budget segment. However, it could have better cameras and hardware. Also, the asking price of the smartphone is slightly higher than the competing devices. Overall, it is a decent smartphone for day-to-day usage.
