Reliance JioPhone is not worth it, Here’s how to get JioPhone refund

Have you booked the JioPhone and do not want to buy it now? We will tell here, how to get the refund of pre-booking amount. After the announcement of the affordable 4G phone in July, it was available for pre-booking from August and interested customers could book the phone via Jio website or MyJio app by paying Rs. 500 as booking amount.

Reliance Jio also said at the time of launch that the effective price of JioPhone will be zero. But customers have to pay Rs. 1,500 as security deposit which will be refundable only when the customer returns the device after three years. So, after booking the phone for Rs. 500, the customers will have to pay the remaining amount of Rs. 1,000 at the time of delivery.

However, after booking the device, if someone finds that the device is not worth the money and they wants to cancel the pre-order, well, it is simply not possible. Also, the booking amount is non-refundable. So, if you too are one of those who booked the JioPhone but do not want to purchase it now, here’s what you can do in order to start the refund process.

JioPhone booking, terms & conditions

First, talking about the JioPhone booking, all you need to do is go to jio.com or MyJio app to pre-book the Jio Phone. Now, open the app or website and click on the Pre-book Now option. You will be asked to provide your phone number and the pin code of your area, and tap on Proceed and pay 500 rupees.

It is to be noted that the payment of Rs. 500 is needed as a token amount while the remaining Rs. 1,000 to be paid while picking up the handset. Reliance Jio has announced the terms and conditions for the JioPhone. It also mentioned that the booking amount is non-refundable.

How you can request refund for booking amount

Reliance Jio had earlier mentioned that the booking amount is non-refundable and you have to either buy the feature phone by paying the remaining Rs. 1,000 or you can leave your booking amount. So, when our founder Mr. Abhishek Bhatnagar decided that he does not want to buy the phone, he took to Twitter to ask about the booking amount he had already paid for the JioPhone.

Reliance Jio replied to his tweet that “We will surely take a look into this, Abhishek. We request you to share your Jio number & registered mobile number through DM to assist you better with your query”

When some other users also replied to the tweet and asked for the same, the company again clarified that the pre-booked orders cannot be canceled. And the company further suggested that they can gift or transfer the order to family or friends.

Abhishek further replied on the same tweet that the phone is not worth the money and he did not want any of his friends to spend money on it. The company again tweeted the same thing that pre-orders cannot be canceled. Later, the company replied asking Abhishek more details about the order and assuring him that they will check the issue.

“Sorry to hear about that. Please DM us the mobile number submitted during the JioPhone booking, the successful transaction ID/Reference No, date & time of booking, mode of payment (credit/debit card/Net banking/JioMoney App), platform of booking done on (MyJio/Jio.com/Retailer & name of the bank to get this checked for you.” Jio replied on the tweet finally.

Abhishek has got a call from Reliance Jio and they have promised that they will initiate the refund approval process within a week. We will update you once we get the latest update from Jio regarding the booking amount refund.

So, if you too are one of those who booked the JioPhone but haven’t purchased it and, if you do not want to buy it now anyway and will be wishing for the refund of booking amount, all you need to do is, ask Reliance Jio’s customer care on social media for a refund.
