Asus Zenfone 5Z, Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 5 Lite launched at #MWC2018 – Full specs, price and more

Asus Zenfone 5Z, Zenfone 5 and the Zenfone 5 Lite were revealed earlier today at the ongoing Mobile World Congress. Asus is one of the first few Android smartphone makers to draw inspiration from Apple’s notch design, with the Zenfone 5Z and the Zenfone 5 embracing the notch. Apart from that, Asus’ new smartphones also focus on the camera experience and bring the fruits of AI to many other day-to-day features too.

The Asus Zenfone 5 and 5Z are the smartphones which come with the notch design just like the iPhone X. The Zenfone 5 Lite, however, comes with a more traditional 18:9 aspect ratio display. Let’s take a look at the specifications of all the three smartphones and the price and availability.

Asus Zenfone 5 Specifications

The Asus Zenfone 5 comes with a full display front panel and the display has a notch at the top just like the iPhone X. The bottom bezel on the front panel is a bit thick but it is not too noticeable. The display is 6.2-inch Super IPS LCD panel and it comes with an 19:9 aspect ratio with Full HD+ (2246 X 1080p) resolution. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.


The camera on the rear of the Zenfone is a 12MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture and LED flash, along with a secondary rear camera that comes with a 120-degree wide angle lens. The front-facing camera is an 8MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture size and it supports beauty mode, Portrait mode and night HDR.

The Zenfone 5 runs on Android 8.0 Oreo which is layered with the ZenUI 5.0. The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor and 4GB/6GB RAM – the internal storage is 64GB which is expandable via microSD card slot. The phone is backed by a 3300mAh battery.

Asus Zenfone 5Z Specifications

The Asus Zenfone 5Z is the top-end smartphone to be launched by Asus today and it comes with a 6.2-inch Super IPS LCD display with FHD+ (2246 x 1080) resolution with a 90% screen to body ratio, with Corning Gorilla Glass on top.

The Zenfone 5Z is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with Adreno 509 GPU and AI Boost that improves performance during heavy graphics sessions. The Zenfone 5Z comes in 4GB/6GB/8GB RAM and 64GB/128GB/256GB internal storage variants.

In terms of optics, the Zenfone 5Z comes with a 12MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture size and LED flash, there is a secondary 120-degree wide angle lens paired as well. For selfies, there is an 8MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture, it comes with portrait mode, night HDR, and GIF animations.

The smartphone runs on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with the ZenUI 5.0. It is backed by a 3300mAh battery with BoostMaster and AI Charging.

Lastly, the Asus Zenfone 5 Lite comes with a 6-inch display with FHD+ (2160 X 1080) resolution, 18:9 aspect ratio and 2.5D curved glass for protection and better design.

The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor (alongside a Snapdragon 430 variant) with 3GB/4GB RAM. The storage is fixed at 32GB/64GB and it is expandable via microSD card slot, it comes with a dedicated microSD card slot other than the dual SIM slots.

The Zenfone 5 Lite comes with four camera dual lens setup at the front and as well as the rear. On the rear is a 16MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture, coupled with a wide-angle lens. On the front, there is a 20MP sensor coupled with a wide angle lens as well.

The smartphone comes with face unlock, USB Type C and it is powered by a 3300 mAh battery.

Asus Zenfone 5 Price and Availability

The starting price of the Zenfone 5Z will be 479 Euros which is approximately Rs. 38,000. Pricing details for the Zenfone 5 and the Zenfone 5 Lite has not been revealed yet.

The Asus Zenfone 5 Lite will be available from March 2018, while the Zenfone 5 will be available from April 2018 and the Zenfone 5Z will be available from June 2018.
