WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will make it easier to notify contacts when you change your phone number. This new feature is currently rolling out to the latest WhatsApp beta v2.18.97 for Android and is also expected to reach iPhone and Windows Phone soon. The feature will now allow users to notify their contacts about the number change via a simple button.
The feature was first reported by WABetaInfo and the new Change Number feature is rolling out through a server-side update. WhatsApp for Android beta version 2.18.97 users can spot the feature which allows you to notify all contacts, contacts that you have chats with or any particular contacts about your number change. The change number feature was already available but there was no notify contacts button before.
WhatsApp Number Change Notification
The new Change Number feature is just the same feature but with a new option. You can access the feature by going to WhatsApp Settings > Account > Change number. After that, just like earlier tap the Next button from the top-right corner and enter your old and new phone numbers.
Now, tap the Next button again, and then comes the new feature. Here you can enable the Notify my contacts option. This brings three options – All contacts, Contacts I have chats with, and Custom. However, regardless of selecting any of these three options, all your groups will be notified. The feature also details the number of contacts who will be notified about your number change.
The feature is currently available for WhatsApp beta users only and if you want to test this, you can download the latest WhatsApp for Android beta.
WABetaInfo also mentions that after Android, the new feature is also heading to iPhone and Windows Phone.
