Reliance Jio to launch JioHomeTV service soon: SD, HD Channels at Rs 400

Reliance Jio has long been working on its DTH services as per various reports. After disrupting the telecom industry, the company is all set to focus on television and broadband services now. As a part of it, Reliance Jio is expected to launch its DTH set-top-box and IPTV services soon. Now, according to a recent report, Reliance Jio might launch a different service altogether dubbed as JioHomeTV.

As per a report by Telecomtalk, the new service by Reliance Jio talks about channel subscription, so we can expect it to be a new name for the Jio DTH service. The report further suggests that the company might introduce it as JioHomeTV. The service will offer users SD channels at Rs 200 and HD channels at Rs. 400. The plan is already listed on the official MyJio app.

JioHomeTV

Given the report’s sources, Jio will be taking it as JioBroadcast service for all the Jio users in the next few weeks as the test trial has already been completed. Previously, a JioBroadcast app was spotted on the Play Store and it was said to offer HD quality streaming service on Jio LTE-Broadcast devices. The report claims that Jio might make the JioBroadcast service live and the JioHomeTV could be the rebranded version of the JioBroadcast service.

The JioHomeTV service could be the eMBMS (Enhanced Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service) that Reliance Jio has been testing over the last few months. The eMBMS is a hybrid technology which combines one-to-many broadcasting architecture used by TV channels and FM radios with the one-to-one architecture used by telecom service providers.

Thus, users will not be required to have an active internet connection to use an eMBMS service. The provider places the content in broadcast mode itself which can be viewed in HD quality. Moreover, Reliance Jio had already announced last year that it had performed “eMBMS broadcast stream across Pan-India,” indicating it is actively working on this service.
