Xiaomi Redmi S2 Global version listed on AliExpress ahead of launch: Price, Specs

Xiaomi is all set to launch its next budget smartphone the Redmi S2 on May 10 in China. The phone’s design and key specs have leaked over past few weeks. Meanwhile, ahead of its official launch, the global edition of Redmi S2 has surfaced on popular e-com website AliExpress.com. The listing reveals the entire specifications along with the images and price of Redmi S2.

Moreover, the Chinese company has itself posted a series of teasers for the smartphone. Through the posters, Xiaomi reaffirms the May 10 as the launch date of Redmi S2. The posters shed light on the design, camera, screen and color variants of the upcoming devices. While the AliExpress listing reveals that Redmi S2 comes with a metallic design with Gold, Grey and Pink color variants.

The Redmi S2 will be available in China through Suning.com. The price of the Redmi S2 is to be under CNY 1,000 (roughly Rs 10,600), though it is not clear which RAM variant this price tag is for. Whereas, as per AliExpress listing the 3GB+32GB version of Redmi S2 is priced at $165.99 – $193.99 which hints it could be launched at around Rs. 11,100 to Rs. 13,100 in India.

Xiaomi Redmi S2 Specifications

As for the specs, the Xiaomi Redmi S2 sports a 5.99-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels. The display comes with an 18:9 aspect ratio which means a full-screen display. There is a vertically aligned dual camera setup and fingerprint scanner in the middle of the back panel.


The smartphone is powered by Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor paired with 3GB RAM along with 32GB of internal storage. However, previous reports claim that we can also expect two other variants with 2GB RAM+16GB storage and 4GB RAM+64GB storage. The phone sports a dedicated microSD card slot.

As for the optics, the Redmi S2 sports dual cameras at the back with a primary 12MP OmniVision OV12A10 sensor and a secondary 5MP Samsung S5K5E8 sensor. Upfront, it sports a single 16 MP camera accompanied by Selfie Light. The Redmi S2 is powered by 3080mAh battery and runs MIUI 9.5 based on Android 8.1 Oreo.

The smartphone could be launched in India as an Android One device very soon. However, currently, AliExpress shows it cannot deliver to India.
