Lenovo-owned Motorola today launched the Moto G6 at an event in Delhi. The Moto G6 series consists of three devices, the Moto G6, the Moto G6 Play and the premium Moto G6 Plus, however, the company did not launch the Moto G6 Plus in India. Among these, the Moto G6 has been placed in the mid-range segment with a starting price tag of Rs. 13,999.
In India, the device will compete with the Xiaomi’s popular mid-range device, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. In this post, we will compare the device to help you decide if you should buy the newly launched Moto G6, or go ahead with the Redmi Note 5 Pro.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a 5.99-inch full HD+ IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The display is protected by an unspecified version of Corning Gorilla Glass.
Coming to the Moto G6, the device comes with a 5.7-inch full HD+ IPS LCD display with the same resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. It is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
While both the devices are similar, the Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a bigger display and wins in this segment.
Hardware and Storage
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is a powerful device and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 that comes with 8 x 1.8 GHz Kryo 260 cores and comes with Adreno 509 GPU. In terms of memory, the device comes with 4GB / 6GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage which can be further expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card.
On the other hand, the Moto G6 is powered by a much less powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC that comes with 8 x 1.8 GHz Cortex-A53 cores and Adreno 506. In terms of memory, the device will be available in 3GB + 32GB / 4GB + 64GB storage options. The internal storage can be further expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card.
In terms of performance, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 easily beats the Moto G6 with its much powerful Snapdragon 636 SoC. The Snapdragon 450 SoC that Motorola has used in the Moto G6 is used by Xiaomi in its budget devices such as the Xiaomi Redmi 5 which is priced at Rs. 7,999, which is half of what the Moto G6 base variant is priced at. Additionally, if you look at the memory variants, the Redmi Note 5 Pro is once again ahead of the Moto G6.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro features a dual camera setup for portrait mode at the back consisting of a 12MP primary camera with f/2.2 aperture and a 5MP secondary camera with f/2.0 aperture. The camera comes with phase detection autofocus, LED flash, HDR and portrait mode. On the front, the device sports a 20MP selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture and an LED flash.
Coming to the Moto G6, the device comes with a similar dual camera setup at the back consisting of a 12MP primary camera with f/1.8 aperture and a 5MP secondary camera with f/2.2 aperture. It comes with phase detection autofocus, LED flash, auto-HDR and portrait mode. On the front, it sports an 8MP selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture and an LED flash.
While the primary cameras of the Redmi Note 5 Pro and Moto G6 are very similar, the Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a better selfie camera. If you are a selfie lover, the Redmi Note 5 Pro is a better option for you.
Software and Battery
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat with Xiaomi’s custom UI, MIUI 9 skinned on top. The device is expected to be updated to Android Oreo in the coming days. It is powered by a 4,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 2.0 support.
Coming to the Moto G6, the device runs on Android 8.0 Oreo and offers an almost Stock Android experience. Earlier today, Motorola confirmed that the Moto G6 series will get the Android P upgrade. It is powered by a 3,000mAh battery with TurboCharge support.
In terms of software, the Moto G6 is the clear winner with its Stock Android experience and promised Android P upgrade but the Redmi Note 5 Pro takes the lead again when it comes with batter as it comes with 25% more capacity than the Moto G6.
In terms of connectivity, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, Infrared Port, microUSB 2.0, FM Radio and a 3.5mm audio jack.
The Moto G6 comes with 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, FM Radio, 3.5mm audio jack and a USB Type-C port.
While the Moto G6 lacks an Infrared port, the device comes with a USB Type-C Port, which is a more useful feature among the two.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro has been priced at Rs. 13,999 for the 4GB RAM variant and Rs. 16,999 for the 6GB RAM variant. The Moto G6 on the other hand, is priced at Rs. 13,999 for the base variant. In terms of pricing, the Redmi Note 5 Pro is the clear winner.
After comparing the specifications of the two devices, we can conclude that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is the better option among the two as it comes with a bigger display, powerful processor, bigger battery, better selfie camera and the device’s price is less than the expected price of the Moto G6.
