Xiaomi Mi A1 gets the Android 8.1 Oreo stable update

Xiaomi has released the Android 8.1 Oreo stable update for the Mi A1. Xiaomi launched the Mi A1 last year under the Android One Programme making it the first Xiaomi smartphone running the stock Android OS. Android One programme also promises to bring latest Android updates and security patch every month.

Xiaomi has started the closed beta for the Android 8.0 Oreo testing in December and rolled out the final update on 31st December. But because of some stability issues, Xiomi stopped the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the smartphone within weeks. Now, it is being rolled out to all users via an OTA update.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 does not come with Project Treble support and as reported by some users, the update wipes out the entire SMS history so you have to backup the SMS using a third party backup app before the update.

The update hasn’t released to all the regions now, it might take a bit to get to your region so you have to wait for the update. But if you do not want to wait then you can install the update manually using the Mi Flash Tool on your Windows PC. You can download the fast boot flashable ROM from here.
