Apple iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max: India pricing, availability and everything else to know

Apple has introduced it’s 2018 iPhone lineup in three new variants dubbed as the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and the cheaper iPhone XR. The iPhone XS and XS Max are flagship smartphones starting at $999 (Rs. 99,900 in India).

All the new iPhone models were revealed at yesterday’s Apple keynote event. Shortly after the launch, the iPhone XS/XS Max and XR prices in India along with availability were revealed. The highlight of the new models is support for dual-SIM and they will come with one SIM card locked.

Let’s find out all the details regarding new iPhone XS, XS Max including their price in India, availability with dual-SIM connectivity, and all the other features you need to know.

Apple iPhone XS/XS Max Price in India

The company has announced the pricing and availability of the new iPhones in India. Apple iPhone XS price in India starts at Rs. 99,900 for the 64GB model. While the 256GB iPhone XS costs Rs. 1,14,900 and lastly iPhone XS 512GB model is priced at Rs. 1,34,900 in India.


Next, the Apple iPhone XS Max 64GB model is priced in India at Rs. 1,09,900. The 256GB model of iPhone XS Max costs Rs. 1,24,900 and lastly the 512GB model of iPhone XS Max will cost Rs. 1,44,900.

Both the new iPhone XS models come in space grey, silver, and a new gold color finish. The iPhone XS/XS Max will be available to purchase via Apple Authorised Resellers starting from September 28 in India.

Apple iPhone XS/XS Max Dual SIM Support

For the first time, Apple introduced its new iPhones with support for Dual SIM cards globally. The iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR will use a primary nano SIM and a secondary eSIM support. In India, Airtel and Reliance Jio will offer support for eSIM cards.

The new iPhones will use Dual SIM Dual Standby technology and unlike most of the dual SIM phones, you can use one cellular network at a time. So, with Dual SIM support, you will be able to use two numbers on the new iPhone XS/XS Max. One of SIMs will be your normal nano-SIM, while the other will be a digital SIM that you can activate with your carrier and their plan without needing a physical SIM.

Design and Display: Same design

The overall design of the new iPhones looks almost similar to the iPhone X. Apple has used a surgical-grade stainless steel frame and a special alloy to create band finishes. The glass back allows the iPhones to charge wirelessly. Moreover, the iPhone XS/XS Max are IP68 rated with a maximum depth of 2 meters up to 30 minutes for water resistance.

In terms of display, the iPhone XS sports a 5.8‑inch Super Retina OLED display with 2436×1125‑pixels resolution. While the iPhone XS Max sports a similar but bigger 6.5‑inch display with 2688×1242 pixels resolution. The Super Retina display supports True Tone display, Wide color display (P3), and 3D Touch.

Hardware: New Apple A12 Bionic

Both the new iPhone variants are powered by Apple’s latest A12 Bionic chip. It is said to be the industry’s first 7nm processor with the next-generation Neural Engine. The new A12 Bionic has 6-cores with 2 performance cores that are up to 15 percent faster and 4 efficiency cores that use up to 50 percent lower power.

The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max come with 4GB RAM and will be available in 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage models.

Dual Cameras: Improved features

The iPhone XS and XS both sports a similar dual rear camera setup. It has a 12-megapixel primary wide-angle lens and a 12MP telephoto lens with ƒ/1.8 and ƒ/2.4 apertures respectively. The cameras are improved with larger and deeper pixels.

If we talk about camera features, they have dual optical image stabilization, 2x optical zoom, and quad-LED True Tone flash. Notably, it has a portrait mode with advanced bokeh and depth control and a new Smart HDR feature. It is capable of 4K video recording at 24 fps, 30 fps or 60 fps, and slow-motion recording with 1080p at 120 fps or 240 fps.

Up front, it has a 7-megapixel TrueDepth camera with ƒ/2.2 aperture and Retina Flash. It also features portrait mode with advanced bokeh & depth control and Smart HDR features. It also features the popular Animoji feature and has an improved Face ID technology. It can record 1080p videos at 30 fps or 60 fps.

Battery and others

The new iPhones come with a built-in lithium‑ion battery that supports fast charging as well as Qi Wireless charging. The iPhone XS’ battery is said to last up to 30 minutes longer than iPhone X while XS Max’s battery can last up to 1.5 hours longer than iPhone X.

The new iPhones run iOS 12 which is now more personal and secure operating system and packs several useful features. In terms of sensors, the iPhones have three-axis gyro, accelerometer, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, and barometer.

What’s in the box?

The iPhone XS and XS Max retail box contain iPhone, EarPods with Lightning Connector, Lightning to USB Cable, USB Power Adapter, and Documents. Apple sticks to the Type-A to the Lightning charger instead of going for USB Type-C. Also, the 3.5mm-to-Lightning dongle will not be included in the box.
