Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro with in-display fingerprint scanner and Mi 8 Youth Edition Launched: Price, Specs

Xiaomi has expanded its Mi 8 series in China by launching two new models namely Mi 8 Youth Edition and Mi 8 Pro. The two phones were launched at an event in China today. The Mi 8 Youth Edition is a lite version of the flagship Mi 8 with downgraded hardware and rear camera, and also with half the price.

The Mi 8 Pro, on the other hand, is Screen Fingerprint Edition which is similar to the Mi 8 in terms of specs. It has a pressure-sensitive in-display fingerprint sensor unlike the rear-mounted on Mi 8. Both the phones go on pre-orders today with the sale starting from next week.

Mi 8 Pro Specifications

If we talk about full specs, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro sports a 6.21-inch Full HD+ (2248 × 1080 pixels) AMOLED display with 18.7:9 aspect ratio which means a notch on top. Under the hood, it gets a Snapdragon 845 processor with up to 8GB RAM and 128GB storage.

The Mi 8 Pro comes in Gradient color versions with glass back and Transparent Titanium back just like the Mi 8 Explorer Edition. It is powered by Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI on top. It features IR Face unlock as well as a pressure-sensitive fingerprint sensor.


In terms of camera, it sports a dual rear camera setup having a 12MP primary Sony IMX363 sensor with f/1.8 aperture, 1.4µm pixel size, dual-tone LED flash and a 12MP secondary Samsung S5K3M3 sensor with f/2.4 aperture. It also supports 4-axis OIS, Optical zoom, and 4K video recording. There is a 20MP front camera with AI portraits.

The Dual SIM phone has Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5, Dual-frequency GPS/GLONASS/Beidou, NFC, and USB Type-C connectivity options. It packs a 3400mAh battery with Quick Charge 4+ fast charging support.

Mi 8 Youth Edition Specifications

The Mi 8 Youth Edition sports a 6.26-inch FHD+ (2280×1080 pixels) 2.5D curved glass LCD display with 19:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by a Snapdragon 660 processor with up to 6GB RAM and up to 128GB storage. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI on top.

In terms of optics, it also sports a dual camera setup with a 12MP primary Sony IMX363 sensor with 1.4μm pixel size, f/1.9 aperture, and a 5MP secondary Samsung S5K5E8 sensor. Up front, there is a 24MP front camera with Sony IMX576 sensor.

Connectivity options on the phone include Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz / 5GHz), Bluetooth 5 LE, GPS + GLONASS, and USB Type-C port. The device packs a 3350mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support. It comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Price, availability

Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth Edition is priced at CNY 1,399 (Rs. 14,800 approx.) for the 4GB/64GB variant. While the 6GB/64GB model costs CNY 1,699 (Rs. 18,000 roughly) and the top-end 6GB/128GB variant comes at CNY 1,999 (Rs. 21,200 approx.). The phone comes in three gradient Aurora Blue, Sunset Gold, and Midnight Black color options and is available for pre-orders starting today. It will go on sale from September 25.

The Mi 8 Pro pricing starts at CNY 3,199 (Rs. 34,000 approx.) for the 6GB/128GB variant. While the 8GB/128GB model is priced at CNY 3,599 (Rs. 38,200 roughly). This phone also comes in three gradient Sunset Gold, Black, and Transparent Titanium color versions. Its pre-orders are starting today and it will go on sale from September 21.
