Realme 2 Pro Vs Nokia 6.1 Plus: Best smartphone under Rs. 15,000?

Realme launched its latest smartphone known as Realme 2 Pro in India just last month. The mid-range smartphone comes with features like a new dewdrop notch display, Snapdragon 660 processor, dual rear cameras, and more at a starting price of Rs. 13,990.

With such pricing and features, Realme 2 Pro gives competition to the recently launched Nokia 6.1 Plus Android One phone. HMD Global launched Nokia 6.1 Plus in India back in August for Rs. 15,999 and with features like notch display, Snapdragon 636 processor, and dual rear AI cameras. Let’s see how these two fair against each other in the under Rs 15k segment.

Design

The Realme 2 Pro comes with a plastic body. However, this new design with its glossy back and a full-screen notch display at the front looks good. The phone feels premium while holding and a bigger display doesn’t feel that big and Realme 2 Pro looks stunning.

Talking about Nokia, the smartphone looks pretty with its glass back. This is one of few smartphones in the midrange that come with glass back. The phone is also very compact and easy to use with one hand. Overall, Nokia 6.1 Plus looks good in terms of design.

Display

The Realme 2 Pro sports a 6.3-inch IPS LCD display with an FHD+ screen resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio which means it has slim bezels and a notch on top. Notably, it is a new kind of notch which the company calls dewdrop notch. The screen is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.

Nokia 6.1 Plus, on the other hand, sports a slightly smaller IPS display but with same FHD+ resolution. However, the notch on the Nokia 6.1 Plus is wider than the Realme. Both the displays are good in terms of brightness level, color intensity and viewing angles.

Cameras

Both the Realme 2 Pro and Nokia 6.1 Plus come with a dual rear camera setup. The Realme 2 Pro’s 16 MP primary sensor with f/1.7 aperture and 2 MP secondary sensor offers just good photos in this segment. It’s 16MP front camera also gives good results.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus’s 16MP+5MP dual rear cameras also offer good pictures. They both have the Portrait mode, HDR, and Pro modes. The 16MP front camera on Nokia 6.1 Plus also comes with AI Portrait Mode and Beauty modes which also clicks good selfies.

Hardware

The Realme 2 Pro gets a powerful Snapdragon 660AIE chipset which is clearly a win for it. Nokia, on the other hand, is powered by a Snapdragon 636 processor which is not so bad in this segment. We played PUBG Mobile on both the phones and obviously on Realme 2 Pro it was smoother. However, Nokia can also render it smoothly in mid settings.

The Snapdragon 636 is a powerful processor in the mid-range segment, but it cannot outrun Snapdragon 660. You can see the difference in becnhmark scores as well. Moreover, the Realme 2 Pro comes with up to 8GB of RAM.

Battery and Software

The Realme 2 Pro is powered by a 3,500 mAh non-removable battery but it doesn’t support fast charging. Nokia 6.1 Plus, on the other hand, packs a 3,060 battery which also doesn’t support fast charging.

In terms of OS, the Nokia 6.1 Plus runs stock Android Oreo 8.1 out of the box and since it is an Android One smartphone so it will also get Android 9.0 Pie as well as Android Q. It will get timely software updates. Realme 2 Pro comes with Oppo’s custom Color OS on top of Android Oreo, which doesn’t feel so good.

Connectivity and Others

The Realme 2 Pro supports two Nano-SIM cards using dedicated SIM card slots and it supports LTE and VoLTE networks. While Nokia also supports two Nano-SIM cards but it uses a hybrid SIM slot.

realme 2 pro

Other connectivity options are the same. Realme 2 Pro comes with Face unlock feature while Nokia doesn’t. They both have fingerprint sebsor though.

Sensors on both the phones include a Fingerprint Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Accelerometer, Ambient Light Sensor, Compass, and Gyroscope.

Price

The Nokia 6.1 Plus has been priced at Rs. 15,999 for the lone 4GB/64GB variant. It comes in Gloss Midnight Blue, Gloss White, and Gloss Black color options in India. The Realme 2 Pro’s 4GB+64GB variant costs less than Nokia and comes at only Rs. 13,990 price tag. At Rs. 15,990 which is similar to Nokia’s pricing, you can buy 6GB variant of Realme 2 Pro.

Conclusion

Concluding, both the smartphones face each other closely in all areas. In terms of looks, they both look good, but you can say Nokia is better with its glass back and more colorful display. The Realme 2 Pro, however, is a good deal if you look at its hardware and the price tag at which it is offered. If you are not fond of stock Android and glass back phones, Realme 2 Pro can save you some pennies alongside a powerful hardware.
