WhatsApp for iOS gets Face ID and Touch ID authentications

WhatsApp for iOS has gained the Face ID and Touch ID authentication support. The Facebook-owned company is using Apple’s Touch ID and Face ID to bring an extra layer of security to the messenger app. It locks the whole app and requires biometric authentication to open and it doesn’t work on chats.

You can get this latest WhatsApp feature on your iPhone by updating WhatsApp to the latest version 2.19.20 from the App Store. You can then head to WhatsApp’s Settings->Account–>Privacy and switch the “Screen Lock” feature on.

After using the screen lock, you will still be able to view WhatsApp notifications and you can also quick reply within there. However, the full app won’t be accessed unless the Face ID or Touch ID authentication process is successful.

You can now use your iPhone’s Face ID or Touch ID to unlock the WhatsApp by enabling it from “Settings”. Facebook has already confirmed that it is also working on integrating such security features on its Messenger, Instagram as well by the end of this year or by early 2020. WhatsApp for Android will also get this feature soon.

Until then, if your are an iPhone users, you can update your WhatsApp from App Store here.
