Redmi Note 7S Vs Redmi Note 7 Pro: Should you wait for the Note 7S?

Xiaomi has confirmed it is launching another 4MP camera phone Redmi Note 7S in India on May 20. The company has posted the launch event poster hinting that Redmi Note 7S will be the Redmi Note 7 China version. Since the Redmi Note 7 Pro has been a huge hit because of its camera, so the company might launch Redmi Note 7 China version here.

If this will be the case, both the Note 7S and Note 7 Pro will be the same devices except for the hardware and probably the camera sensor. We have the Redmi Note 7 China version with us, so we compared it with Note 7 Pro to find out which one should you wait for.

Design and Display: Same

Both the devices are similar in terms of design and display. The Redmi Note 7 and 7 Pro come with a premium glass back body that also has Gorilla Glass 5 protection on both sides. They have a splash-proof body with P2i nano-coating. The devices are compact not so heavy either. They come in Black, Red, and Blue colors.

Coming to the display, they both sport a 6.3-inch Full HD+ (2340 ×1080 pixels) IPS dot notch display with Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It offers good brightness level and sharp colors.

Processor: Snapdragon 660 Vs Snapdragon 675

The Redmi Note 7 is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 660 processor paired with Adreno 512 GPU and up to 4GB RAM. This processor is based on process 14nm technology and has Kryo 250 CPUs clocked at up to 2.2GHz.

While the Redmi Note 7 Pro comes with a new Snapdragon 675 11nm processor paired with Adreno 612 GPU and up to 6GB LPDDR4x RAM. The SD 675 is one of the first chipsets in the 600-series that comes Kryo 460 cores.

So, Snapdragon 675 is a better chipset than the Snapdragon 660 in terms of overall performance. You can also see the difference in their AnTuTu scores. We played PUBG Mobile on both phones and it was smoother on the Redmi Note 7 Pro.

Camera: Samsung Sensor Vs Sony Sensor

Xiaomi is promoting Redmi 7S launch with ’48MPForEveryone’ hashtag. However, there could be a catch. The 48MP in upcoming 7S might not be same as Redmi Note 7 Pro. As the China version of Redmi Note 7 was launched with a 48MP Samsung ISOCELL GM1 sensor while Redmi Note 7 Pro comes with a Sony IMX 586 sensor.

All other features of the dual cameras at the back are the same in both phones such as the f/1.79 aperture and a 5MP secondary camera for depth sensing. They both also sport a 13MP front camera with AI beautify, portrait and face unlock features.

Let’s check out a few camera samples to see the difference.

Other Features: All are the same

All other features are expected to be the same on both phones. They run on Android 9.0 Pie with MIUI 10 on top. There is a big 4000mAh battery with Quick Charge 4 fast charging support. Both the phones come with a hybrid card slot. Other connectivity options include Dual 4G VoLTE, Wifi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, GPS/AGPS/GLONASS, and USB Type C.

Conclusion

If Redmi Note 7S turns out to be the Redmi Note 7 China version, its pricing should be the same as Redmi Note 7 price in India. Then Redmi Note 7S could start at Rs. 9,999. While the Redmi Note 7 Pro starts at Rs. 13,999. You will get a slightly better camera results and much better performance in 7 Pro after paying Rs. 4,000 more. But if you are not going to spend that much, Redmi 7S will be a great choice under Rs. 10,000.
