OnePlus recently launched its latest smartphones in India as well as in other markets. The OnePlus 7 Pro and the OnePlus 7 are now available for purchase in India. The OnePlus 7 is the more affordable one and it also comes with an upgraded flagship processor.
Recently, Xiaomi‘s Redmi sub-brand in China also launched its latest flagship smartphones- the Redmi K20 and K20 Pro. The company’s VP and India Head Manu Kumar Jain has announced that these new smartphones will be launched in the Indian market by mid-July.
Redmi K20 Pro vs OnePlus 7
Design: Glass back but with different patterns
Redmi K20 Pro sports a glass and metal design with a new 3D gradient back. It has a full-screen display at the front because of the pop-up selfie camera. It also comes with graphite stereo cooling technology for heat dissipation. It also sports a 3.5mm headphone jack.
OnePlus 7, on the other hand, comes with a similar design as the OnePlus 6T. It also sports a glass back and the metal frame body. Up front, OnePlus 7 features a waterdrop style notch display. However, it does not sport a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Display: No notch Vs Dewdrop notch
Redmi K20 Pro sports a 6.39-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels. The company claims that the display comes with DC dimming technology. It also features an in-display fingerprint sensor.
OnePlus 7 also features a 6.4-inch full-HD+ AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 2340×1080 pixels. It is also a full-screen display but with a small dewdrop notch on the top. The display also sports Gorilla Glass 6 protection.
Cameras: Triple Vs Dual
Redmi K20 Pro sports triple cameras at the back with a 48MP primary Sony IMX586 sensor, an 8MP telephoto lens, and a 13MP sensor.
Whereas, the OnePlus 7 sports a dual camera set up on the back with a similar 48MP primary Sony IMX586 sensor, but it is paired with a 5MP secondary depth sensor.
The Redmi K20 Pro comes with a 20MP pop-up selfie camera, while, the OnePlus 7 sports a 16MP selfie camera fitted into a waterdrop notch.
We haven’t tested Redmi K20 Pro’s camera yet, so we cannot give any verdict in this section.
Performance: Faster storage on OnePlus
Both the phones are powered by the latest Snapdragon 855 7nm processor paired with Adreno 640 GPU. On paper, these devices will offer similar performance, however, both companies came with some tweaks for enhanced performance.
They both also come with up to 8GB RAM and up to 256GB storage. However, OnePlus 7 comes with the UFS 3.0 type storage which makes it faster than Redmi K20 Pro.
Battery, connectivity and other features
The Redmi K20 Pro packs a 4000mAh battery with 27W fast charging. The OnePlus 7 is powered by a 3,700mAh battery with 20W fast charging.
Coming to the software, both run the latest Android 9 Pie, however, Xiaomi uses its MIUI and OnePlus uses its near stock OxygenOS.
Connectivity features on both the phones include Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), Bluetooth 5, GPS (L1 + L2 Dual Band) + GLONASS, NFC, USB Type-C.
Price: The key factor
Redmi K20 Pro is currently not available in India and in China, its price starts at CNY 2,499 (approx. Rs 25,200) for the 6GB/64GB model. OnePlus 7 price in India starts at Rs 32,999 for the 6GB/128GB model. So, if Xiaomi launches Redmi K20 Pro in India with a similar price tag as India, it would be cheaper than OnePlus 7.
Both phones come with powerful hardware and other specs. They also have premium glass design but Redmi K20 has a more trendy pop-up selfie camera design. Their camera performances should also be the same despite being the different setup but because of the same main sensor. So, if you are not a fan of any company, you can decide as per your budget.
