OnePlus 7T / 7T Pro Rumor Round-up: Specs, Features, Launch date

The Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus is well-known for launching two smartphones a year. And now that it has added a new Pro-series into the portfolio, we are likely to see a refreshed T-version of the same, alongside the regular 7T.  Having said that, here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro, circling rumored specifications, features and expected release date.

OnePlus 7T/ 7T Pro Leaks & Rumors

Design

As far as the design is concerned, the OnePlus 7T Pro won’t necessarily have any major changes, as evident in the recent leaks. Notably, the purported live images showcase a full-screen notch-less display, pop-up camera and curved sides, akin to the OnePlus 7 Pro. Besides, the phone is likely to come with an in-display fingerprint scanner as usual.

The OnePlus 7T, on the other hand, too, will follow the design language of its predecessor. Following the same, it’s likely to offer a water-drop notch display, followed by a tiny chin at the bottom. Interestingly, the latest CAD renders by @OnLeaks reveal that vertical camera arrangement of the OnePlus 7-series will be replaced by a circular camera module that will contain several lenses.

As for the 7T, it’ll be getting an extra lens this time, compared to the dual-camera setup on the regular 7. And while this might bring it on par with the 7 Pro in terms of photography prowess, we are also expecting a significant camera performance boost on the 7T Pro. Now many are expecting quad-camera setup on the latter, but there aren’t any legit renders to back it for the time being. All-inclusive, OnePlus seems to be sticking to its policy of reserving majorly of design changes for big flagship launches, instead of the T-variation models.

Hardware

As evident, the T-versions mostly comprise of hardware upgrades. And therefore, the new 7T-series is expected to be powered by the all-new Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+, instead of the regular 855. For those unaware, the Snapdragon 855+ offers 4.2% improvement in terms of CPU performance and a tweaked GPU that performs 15% faster than the one on 855.

On the contrary, we aren’t expecting any significant changes in the camera setup, as for the 7T Pro. However, OnePlus might involve necessary software improvements and even changes in secondary sensors. Battery life too is sort of average on the Pro, and that’s what might improve in the upcoming iteration.

OnePlus 7T / 7T Pro

The RAM and storage options on the current device should stay the same for new models. Talking of which, the OnePlus 7T should arrive in 6/128GB and 8/256GB options while the 7T Pro will be offered in 6/128GB, 8/256GB and 12/256GB variants. Anyways, we won’t be surprised to see a 512GB model as competitors like Samsung have already amped their game by offering the same. That said, the UFS 3.0 storage will also be carried over from the current generation.

As noted, the 7T Pro will most probably share the same display from 7 Pro, i.e., a 6.7-inch Quad-HD+ Super AMOLED panel with 90Hz refresh rate, 19.5:9 aspect ratio and curved glass on top while the 7T should get a Full-HD+ AMOLED panel, just like the 7 and 6T. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau, lately said that the company would release another 5G handset globally in the fourth quarter of 2019. And hence, it won’t be a surprise for us to see a 5G variant of the 7T Pro.

Expected Launch Date

If reports are to be believed, the OnePlus 7T-lineup will be unveiled in India on September 26th, 2019. Following which, the smartphone will make its way to the US and European markets on October 10 with sales starting October 15. However, nothing is official yet, and we’re waiting for official statements from the company.

That said, the prices, as usual, should stay more or less similar to the current models. As for now, the OnePlus 7 Pro starts at INR 48,999 ($669 or £649 for respective markets) and goes as high as INR 57,999 for the top model. The OnePlus 7, on the other hand, retails for INR 32,999 in India.
