realme XT First Impressions

Design: Gorilla Glass body

The realme XT is the first phone from the company to offer a glass back. The rear panel is curved around the edges and is also protected by Gorilla Glass 5. It comes in white and blue gradient colors that create a 3D hyperbola that makes it look more premium under the light.

On the front, it gets a Dewdrop display that we have seen on several Realme phones in the past.

The frame of the phone is made of metal. There is a power button with a yellow accent on the right side and volume rockers are on the left.

On the bottom, there is a USB Type-C port, 3.5mm jack, and a single speaker grille. The realme XT is also smaller and lighter than the Realme X.

Display: Super AMOLED

realme XT

The Realme XT sports a 6.4-inch FHD+ (1080×2340) Super AMOLED display, just like the Realme X. The display looks good on first glance and also offers vibrant colors and good viewing angles. The daylight visibility is also quite good.

The Realme XT also has an in-display fingerprint sensor which is an optical one and performs similar to other phones with the sensor in this segment.

Camera: 64MP Quad Camera

The USP of the Realme XT is its 64MP camera. Like a 48MP sensor, it also uses pixel binning to combine 16MP shots together to offer a bright and detailed photo. This is done by default but you also get a separate 64MP mode in the settings. The 64MP can be zoomed in to the max while you cannot do this to the normal shots.

In addition to the 64MP camera, there is an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, a 2-megapixel macro camera, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The wide-angle lens does capture a lot of field but it might not offer that much details in photos.

The main camera also supports Nightscape mode, Chroma Boost, and HDR. The night mode is really impressive and you can hardly differentiate it with a well-lit shot.

It is safe to say that the main camera does great job in daylight conditions and colors look rich even without Chroma Boost feature enabled.

The selfie camera is a 16-megapixel Sony IMX471 sensor. I don’t usually take enough selfies, but the few times Abhishek and I used the front camera, it clicked decent selfies.

Overall, the camera isn’t as great as you think it should be because of a 64MP sensor. However, it doesn’t need to be that good either, because it is already better than other phones in this segment, and that’s totally fine by me.

Processor

Realme XT is powered by a Snapdragon 712 SoC, which is the same chip powering the recently launched Realme 5 Pro. It is a 2.3Ghz octa-core 10nm processor and is equipped with an Adreno 616 GPU.

The Realme XT will be offered with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage. Also, unlike the Realme X, it will support storage expandability.

This chipset is capable of rendering most games flawlessly. However, if you’re a fan of only PUBG Mobile, you won’t be able to max out the settings.

Software & UI: ColorOS getting new features

The new realme XT also runs ColorOS 6.0.1 based on Android 9.0 Pie just like the previous realme phones. The user interface is mainly unchanged from the Realme 3 Pro. There’s a lot of customization options available on ColorOS.

Realme will also roll out a system-wide dark mode via an OTA that will switch out the color scheme of the UI as well as the stock apps.

If we talk about software updates, you’ll have to wait until Q1 2020 to get the Android 10 update on realme XT.

Battery: Big & charges fast

The Realme XT packs a 4,000mAh battery, which should last for a whole day if you use it moderately. It also supports 20W VOOC 3.0 fast charging, which takes 1 hour and 20 minutes to charge the device 100 percent from 0.

Wrapping Up

The Realme XT is an overall great device that comes with all the essentials for a mid-range phone. The design and build quality is really an evolution from Realme, after seeing the polycarbonate phones in the past, and the 64MP camera is a clear gamechanger for the brand as of now. Also, a vibrant AMOLED screen, powerful internals, and a 4000mAh battery with 20W fast charging add more feathers to realme XT’s cap.
