Redmi 8A Vs Realme C2: Which is better budget phone?

Xiaomi launched the Redmi 8A smartphone in India today. The Redmi 8A is a budget range phone that comes with features like HD+ notch display, Snapdragon 439 processor, Android 9.0 Pie, 12MP rear camera, and a 5,000mAh battery with fast charging support via Type C.

The Redmi 8A price in India starts at Rs. 6,499. At this price point, Realme has launched its Realme C2 back in April. Realme’s phone also comes with HD+ dewdrop notch display, but with Helio P22 processor and dual rear cameras at a starting price of Rs. 6,999.

Design and Display

Since these both are the budget phones, they sport a polycarbonate body. The back of the Redmi 8A looks simple without any gloss but with a new Aura Wave pattern. The Realme C2, on the other hand, comes with a diamond-cut pattern on the back.


Realme C2 is slimmer and lightweight than Redmi 8A. Overall, design-wise they both look good. They also have a dewdrop notch at the front.

Coming to the display quality, the Redmi 8A has a 6.2-inch HD+ (1520×720 pixels) display that offers good brightness. The Realme C2, on the other hand, has a 6.1-inch HD+ notch display that also offers great brightness.

Redmi 8A’s display is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 while Realme C2’s display is protected by Gorilla Glass 3.

Cameras: Single vs Dual

The Redmi 8A has a 12MP primary camera with f/2.2 aperture and 1.25 um pixel size. It is a new Sony IMX 363 sensor. The camera may click good pictures just like other Xiaomi budget phones. There is an 8MP selfie camera.

Realme C2, on the other hand, comes with dual rear camera setup with a 13MP primary camera and a 2MP secondary camera for depth effects. It clicks good pictures. It has a 5MP AI selfie camera.

Performance: Snapdragon 439 vs Helio P22

The Redmi 8A gets a Snapdragon 439 octa-core processor that is paired with up to 3GB RAM. This is a 12nm series processor that is clocked at up to 2.0GHz with some improvements in terms of camera and power consumption.

The Realme C2 is powered by a MediaTek Helio P22 octa-core chipset. It is also a 12nm process based processor clocked at up to 2.0GHz. These chips may perform same, however, in terms of multitasking Snapdragon could be a little better.

Software: MIUI vs ColorOS

The Redmi 8A runs on Android 9.0 Pie with MIUI 10 on top. The Realme C2 also runs on Android 9 Pie with ColorOS 5.1 on top. Both phones have their usual set of apps in their custom UI.

Battery

The Redmi 8A packs a big 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support. Realme C2 packs a 4,000mAh battery that doesn’t support fast charging.

Redmi 8A also comes with a USB Type C port which makes it the first phone with this port at this price.

Connectivity

The 8A comes with a dedicated microSD card and two SIM card slots. The Realme C2 also comes with dedicated card slots. Other connectivity features are also same including Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS + GLONASS, and 3.5mm audio jack.

Redmi 8A Vs Realme C2 Verdict

At Rs. 6,999, Realme offers a new diamond-cut design and dual cameras. While in Redmi 8A, you spend Rs. 500 less and you will get a better display (GG5 protection), better selfie camera, and a bigger battery with fast charging via USB Type C as well. It has a better processor too. Overall, if you are going to buy a budget phone, Realme C2 and Redmi 8A are the two best options with their own benefits in terms of performance and camera.
