Realme 5i First Impressions

Realme launched the realme 5i smartphone in India yesterday. This is a cheaper version of the Realme 5 and comes with almost similar specs except for the front camera. One more thing that is different in this new phone is the design- it comes with a new Sunrise design which is quite different from Realme’s previous glossy finish designs. We have been using the Realme 5i for some time now and here are our first impressions about it.

Realme 5i First Impressions

Design

The first noticeable thing in the new Realme 5i is its design. There is a less glossy or I would say the matte-like finish on the back that has subtle lines. This type of back panels are also less prone to fingerprints and offers a better grip as well.

The realme 5i has a plastic back and the frame is also plastic. It comes in Green and Blue colors and both look great. If we talk about dimensions, the phone is a little bit thick and heavy because of the big battery. Upfront there is a notch display just like other phones.

The company is calling this dewdrop notch as mini-drop this time and also says that it is 30.9% smaller than the previous ones. The notch has the usual set of proximity and ambient light sensors alongside the 8-megapixel camera.

Talking about the rest of the design, the power button is on the right, volume buttons and dedicated card slots are on the left. On the bottom, you get the loudspeaker grill, micro USB port, microphone, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Display

The Realme 5i sports a 6.5-inch HD+ (1600 x 720 pixels) 20:9 aspect ratio display with 269 PPI pixel density. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3+. The screen is bright and the colors are also vibrant. However, you may not find the content that sharp because of the HD+ resolution.

Hardware

The phone is powered by Snapdragon 665 processor coupled with 4GB RAM. The Snapdragon 665 is a 11nm process based processor that has Kryo 260 CPUs clocked at up to 2.0GHz and Adreno 610 GPU.

The processor is good for multitasking and day to day usage and you can also play heavy games like PUBG with medium settings without any trouble. Check out the AnTuTu benchmark score below.

Software and UI

The new Realme 5i runs on Android 9.0 (Pie) with ColorOS 6.1 on top. The company has already confirmed that realme UI based on Android 10 will be released for the realme 5 in Q2 2020. So the Realme 5i will also get that update during that time.

Cameras

The realme 5i sports quad cameras at the back similar to the Realme 5. It includes a 12-megapixel primary rear camera with a Sony IMX386 sensor and f/1.8 aperture lens. There is an 8MP 118° ultra-wide-angle lens with f/2.25 aperture, a 2MP depth sensor and a 2MP camera for 4cm macro shots with f/2.4 aperture.

There is an 8MP front camera, in comparison to the 13MP camera in Realme 5.

Battery & others

The device packs a huge 5,000mAh battery. But despite a huge battery, it comes only with 10W charging support and that too via micro USB. If we talk about other features, there are all usual connectivity features and also there is no compromise in card slots. The phone also comes with all the necessary sensors as well.

The Realme 5i is priced at Rs. 8,999 and it will be available via Flipkart and realme.com starting from January 15.
