New YouTube Features

The new YouTube search features include video chapters with search results, video previews on mobile, and automatically translated video titles and captions.

Video Chapters

The first feature, video chapters, is the latest addition to the search results page on YouTube. So creators can split their videos into multiple parts that viewers can see on the seek bar and also appears below the descriptions. This helps viewers jump to that part of the video which is most relevant for them.

This feature is much like YouTube timestamps which only showed up when a video was playing. However, with this update, the video chapters will appear on the search results page so viewers can decide whether to watch a video or not.

Video Snippets

The next feature for YouTube search is video snippets on the mobile app. So, on your phone when you will search for a video, it will now show a small preview of the video when you scroll over it. Just like, on desktop, YouTube already shows a preview when you hover over it.

As per YouTube, this feature will help mobile viewers easily preview different videos so they can decide to watch what they’re looking for. It will help them to easily decide whether to play videos before even watching.

Translated Caption, Description, and Title

YouTube will now also start showing videos from other languages when you start searching for something and the search results in your language are not sufficient. Interestingly, these results from other languages will appear with automatically translated titles, captions, and descriptions.

This will help users to access more videos from other language creators on the platform. For now, only English videos will be translated into other languages and appear in search results. YouTube says it will add more languages support for this feature soon.

Furthermore, YouTube is also testing a new feature that will add website links from Google Search with video search results. This experimental feature is currently available in India and Indonesia only but YouTube will expand it to other regions also.

These new YouTube search result features are currently rolling out globally for both YouTube desktop and YouTube app users.
