Lenovo Vibe X3 Camera Review, Photo & Video Samples

Lenovo has launched the Vibe X3 smartphone in India; it was earlier launched in China and was also showcased at CES 2016 but took some time to arrive in India. It is launched at INR 19,999 and comes packed in a premium and stylish looking design. It comes with a lot more to talk about, and one out of those departments is the camera. I was pretty impressed with the camera and wanted to share the experience and photo samples.

Lenovo Vibe X3 Camera Hardware

The primary camera on the Vibe X3 is a 21 MP unit. Lenovo didn’t announce the model of the sensor earlier but during the Indian launch they stated that the primary camera uses Sony IMX230. The sensor gets a 6 stack lens, PDAFm and f/2.0 aperture. For better images in low light, it has a dual-LED on the back as well. On the front, it has an 8 MP wide angle shooter.

Lenovo Vibe X3 Camera Software

The camera software on the Vibe X3 is similar to the camera we have seen in the earlier released Lenovo phones. Opening the camera for the first time will automatically set the app to the Smart Mode. The smart mode basically understands the scene and adjusts the lights itself and gets the best shot out of it. It has a very simple and neat interface with camera shutter, modes, gallery shortcut and video recorder on right and front/rear camera, and flash toggle on left.

Lenovo Vibe X3 Camera Samples

We clicked a number of photos with the camera, testing each aspect of it and here are some of the samples.

Front Camera Samples

The front-facing camera on the device is a 8 MP shooter, which takes some good pictures in natural light, but in low light conditions, even low artificial lights, it does not take as good pictures as we expected from a camera of this range. Below are the two indoor samples from the front camera.

Rear Camera Samples

The rear-facing camera or the primary camera is really the strong point on this device, it has satisfied us with the type of results from the rear camera. This is something that we were expecting from a 21 MP sensor.

Artificial Lighting

While clicking pictures in indoors, we used good lighting set up before taking these pictures and the camera performed well, just as we had expected it to perform.

Natural Outdoor Lighting

We are really impressed with the outdoor performance, the coulours looked natural, details were also well captured. The Smart mode adjusts the camera settings beautifully to get the perfect shot in day light. The camera shutter was quick and PDAF worked beautifully to minimize the risk of shakes and blurs in the picture. You can have a look at the samples to have an idea of the camera performance.

Low Light

In Low Lighting condition, the phone again performs on an average. We tried the low lighting mode along with Flash, and also with smart mode but we realised that in low lighting conditions, the camera tends to become a little slower to get a clear image. Otherwise it is a decent performer in low lights.

Lenovo Vibe X3 Camera Verdict

We are happy with the type of camera features and performance Lenovo has incorporated in this device. The best part about the camera is the great software and the Smart Mode. Users who want a device with good looks, decent perfomance, juicy battery with good camera features can go for this phone without a doubt.
