Asus Zenfone 3s Max Camera UI

Asus has gone for a fairly minimalist Camera UI. Even so, the stock Camera app features a lot of modes and settings, allowing you to fiddle around to improve your results.

The app, in the default Auto mode, has the Settings, Front Camera and Flash toggles on the left. On the right, you will find the Video Recording, Shutter, Gallery buttons. There’s a button to quickly switch between Auto and Manual modes, just below the video recording button. Clicking on it reveals a number of options like AF, White Balance, ISO, EV etc.

The Asus Zenfone 3s Max comes with a 13 MP f/2.0 camera on the back. The rear camera is assisted by Phase Detection Autofocus and dual tone dual LED flash. You can record up to 1080p videos at 30 FPS. The stock Camera app comes with a number of modes and features to help you click good photos. On the back, the phone comes with an 8 MP camera, also featuring an f/2.0 aperture.

Day Light Samples

In daylight, the camera performed quite well and the images quality are decent enough to capture details appropriately.

Low Light Samples

The low light mode works with combining the output of four pixels on the sensor for creating a single pixel. This results in reduce noise but details are hampered to a significant extent. We cannot say that low light images are great but, they are quite on the average line with rest of the phone’s competitors image quality.

Artificial Light Samples

The results in the artificial light are better, especially considering the price segment of the phone.

Camera Verdict

We tested the rear camera of Asus Zenfone 3s Max and found that it perform decent in the natural light and artificial light. But, for low light images, you should not have high expectations. As we are not aware of the prices, it will be early to comment its value for money rating for the camera. Let’s see how Asus price this phone to take lead from the competitors.
