Celkon A8 + Quick Review and Comparison

Indian smart phone vendor has launched a Dual SIM, 3.5 inch screen smart phone Celkon A8+ with modest specifications. Though the price of this smart phone is not yet specified but is expected to be around 3000 INR. Let’s take a look at what this modest entry level phone has to offer.

CAMERA AND INTERNAL STORAGE

Celkon A8+ has a primary camera of 2 MP with 1600 x 1200 pixels and a secondary VGA camera in the front, with 640 x 480 pix for those interested in video calling. Other camera features include camera zoom and video recording. This device has a 256 MB RAM which will be optimum only for general purpose usage.

PROCESSOR AND BATTERY BACKUP

Celkon A8+ is powered by a 1 GHz processor. The manufacturing company and the number of cores of processor have not been specified. The processor clock frequencies above par considering that it is backed by a 256 MB RAM. The O.S. used in this devise is Android v 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The battery capacity is rated at 1500mAh which should be decent enough to carry you through the day, considering the 3.5 inches screen size.

Celkon A8+ has a 3.5 inch capacitive touch screen, similar to the screen size of Celkon A 9 plus. The screen resolution has not yet been specified by Celkon

COMPARISON

Let’s compare this phone to Micromax Bolt A26 Priced at 3,499 INR. Both phones employ a similar processor and a same screen size. But the O.S. in Micromax Bolt A26 is comparatively primitive. It operates on Android 2.3.5 gingerbread O.S. Celkon A8+ has a better battery capacity of 1500 mAh compared to 1250 mAh battery capacity in Micromax Bolt A 26.

Recently launched dual SIM (2G + 3G). Celkon A9 plus (3299 INR) also has similar specs with  same screen size, processor and operating system  It has a relatively better primary camera of 3.2 MP and a battery capacity of 1350 mAh.

CONCLUSION

This is a budget cell phone with pretty humble features; the only supposedly attractive feature should be its alleged low price (expected below 3000 INR). Go for it  if your usage pattern is fairly basic ,including phone calls and a little social networking, and you wish to upgrade yourself from a simple phone to a simple Smartphone.
