Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 Vs Honor 8X: Which one offers better value for money?

Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 came earlier this year and it became a hit because of its features and an affordable price. At the end of the last year, Asus launched its successor with even more aggressive pricing. The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 comes with better hardware and dual camera setup at such an affordable price of Rs 12,999.

Honor 8X is another popular mid-range smartphone from last year and it was launched in India back in October. The highlights of the phone are a big FHD+ display with a notch and small chin, a new octa-core Kirin 710 processor, and dual rear cameras. The Honor 8X price in India is Rs. 14,999.

With almost similar pricing as the Zenfone Max Pro M2, let’s see how Honor 8X stands in the mid-range segment which got even more competitive.

Design and Display

The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 and the Honor 8X both come with a glossy back panel. But the Asus has a plastic back with the frame of aluminium. Whereas the Honor 8X has a glass back with metal frame.

The display on both the smartphones is about similar 6.5 inches (6.26 inches on Max Pro M2) which comes with a notch. The Honor 8X has a small notch and very minimal bezels on each side. It has a small bottom chin that gives it a 91% screen-to-body ratio. The display on Max Pro M2 is protected by Gorilla Glass 6.

Both the displays are IPS LCD panel with FHD+ resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. The screen to body ratio is more in Honor 8X with a very small chin at the bottom and small notch. So, overall the build quality and the display makes Honor 8X better at this price range.

Performance

The Zenfone Max Pro M2 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor whereas the Honor 8X comes with Huawei’s new Kirin 710 processor. Both the smartphones feature up to 6GB RAM. The storage option goes to the 64GB maximum in Zenfone Max Pro M2 while Honor 8X has 128GB variant too. Both the smartphones come with an expandable storage option. Performance wise, both the smartphones offer similar results while gaming and other multitasking.

The front camera is a 13MP sensor with LED flash and f/2.0 aperture size for low light selfies. The rear cameras have a Portrait mode, HDR, and AI features that can detect 13 scenes. The front camera also has Portrait and Beauty modes.

The pictures clicked in daylight are really impressive and offer good detailing. It has a little trouble in the low light shooting. The camera is also capable of recording 4K videos at 30 fps with EIS for stabilization.

The Honor 8X also sports a 20MP+2MP dual rear camera setup. It has a 16MP selfie camera. The Honor 8X back camera has several AI features, portrait mode and several other modes. It has a Night mode for better low-light pictures. The front camera also has all modes that are available on the main camera including night mode.

The Honor 8X can record only 1080p video and there’s no stabilization available for the videos. However, it has AIS. The portrait mode images and images with AI features are pretty good with details and sharp colours.
