The Canvas 4 (Full Review) is Micromax’s current flagship, while the Titanium S9 (Quick Review) is Karbonn’s best offering in the ever growing phablet segment. Although there is some difference between the two devices, many are still confused as to which one to go for. In this post, we shall try and make it easier for you to decide between the two devices.
Display and Processor
The display department is probably the best which differentiates between both the devices. While the Canvas 4 features the tried and tested (and fast becoming the average) 5 inch screen, the Titanium S9 comes with a larger and spacious 5.5 inch screen. However, the resolution on both these panels stays the same at 1280×720 pixels, which means that the Canvas 4 will have a much better pixel density due to the smaller size.
Most prospective buyers should be clear as to what they are looking for; there’s quite a bit of a difference between a 5 and a 5.5 inch screen’d phone. While the Canvas 4 will serve those looking for a regular smartphone, the Titanium S9 is for those who are looking for a device for multitasking (phablet) and/or looking for a bigger device to enjoy multimedia.
Both devices come with 1GB of RAM and the tried and tested MT6589 processor, which means there won’t be much (if any) of a difference in performance.
Camera and Memory
Both devices come with specifications which you would expect from, and pertain to a 2013 flagship. This includes a 13MP main camera at the rear of the device, and a 5MP front-facing unit. It is heartening to see front facing units grow at such a rapid rate!
It can be expected of the Canvas 4 to be a little ahead in terms of imaging, due to the better software optimizations. After all, Micromax has been in the domestic business for as long as any company. That being said, we should also mention that the difference will probably be negligible.
On the storage front, the devices are neck to neck yet again, featuring 16GB on-board memory each. Both devices again feature a microSD card slot. The storage in both devices can be extended to 32 GB
Battery and Features
Buyers are getting smarter by the day, and often overlooking segments like battery are getting more and more emphasis. This is where the Micromax Canvas 4 fails; there’s just 2000mAh of juice for the 5 inch phone which doesn’t seem like a great idea. On the other hand, the Karbonn Titanium S9 comes with a 2600mAh unit which sounds much better. However, the difference is minimized due to the S9 having a larger screen. But still, the S9 is expected to give you a few more hours of backup as compared to the Canvas 4.
The Canvas 4 is the more feature rich out of the two devices, with features (which some refer to as gimmicky) like blow to unlock, shake to unlock, etc. We are not sure how many of you would actually be using those.

It is clear that although both these devices carry nothing revolutionary in their specs sheet, both devices are improved versions of previous instalments. Emphasis on build quality is clear, and devices are more user friendly.
Depending on your style of usage, a choice between both these quad corers can be made. While the Canvas 4 will suit the majority of the population looking for a budget quad core device, the Titanium S9 is for professionals who tend to need more screen real estate for tasks such as editing documents, long emails, etc. However, the S9 might find usage with movie buffs as well.
