Moto G4 Plus V/s Samsung Galaxy J7 Comparison Review

Lenovo launched its much awaited Moto G4 plus on 17th May 2016 in India. While Samsung launched its Galaxy J7 on 9th May 2016 as a refreshed variant of its predecessor, which was launched last year. Moto G4 plus was launched in two variants with a price tag of 13,499 for its 2GB RAM/ 16GB storage variant, and Rs. 14,999 for its 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage variant. On the other hand Samsung Galaxy J7 was launched at Rs. 15,990. Let us take a look at the complete comparison between the Moto G4 Plus and Samsung Galaxy J7.

Design & Build

The Moto G4 plus features a 5.5. inch display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and 71.2% screen-to-body ratio. It has a plastic body with plastic back cover and edges. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy J7 comes with a 5.5 inch display with 72.3% screen-to-body ratio.  Unlike the Moto G4 Plus, Samsung Galaxy J7 has a metallic finish.

The Moto G4 Plus weighs around 155 grams and its dimensions are 153 x 76.6 x 9.8 mm. While, the Samsung Galaxy J7 weighs around 170 grams and its dimensions are 151.7 x 76 x 7.8 mm. Moto G4 is available in Black and White color, and Samsung Galaxy J7 is available in Black, White and Gold color options.

The Build quality of the Metallic Samsung Galaxy J7 looks more premium and solid when compared to the Moto G4 plus which has got a plastic body. On the other hand Moto G4 Plus has a Gorilla glass 3 protection that is missing in Samsung J7, adding to that, Moto G4 plus is 15 grams lighter than the latter. But striking back, Samsung galaxy J7 is around 2 mm thinner than the Moto G4 Plus.

Display

The Moto G4 Plus comes with a 5.5 inch IPS LCD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The display has a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels with pixel density of 401 ppi and color depth of 16M colors. On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy J7 has a 5.5 inches Super AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, 267 ppi pixel density and color depth is the same i.e 16M. In terms of the overall colors and viewing angles both these devices have a good display which is works well in limited lighting. In indoor conditions both the display are equally good, but outdoor visibility is better on the Moto G4 Plus.

Camera

The Moto G4 Plus is equipped with a 16 MP Primary Camera with dual LED flash, phase detection & laser autofocus and f/2.0 aperture. It supports 1080p video recording at the rate 30 frames per second. While on the front there is a 5 MP shooter with aperture f/2.2 and auto-HDR mode. On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy J7 is equipped with a 13 MP Autofocus Primary Camera with LED Flash and f/1.9 aperture. It also supports 1080p video recording @30fps. On the Front, Galaxy J7 has a 5 MP camera  with LED Flash and f/1.9 aperture.

The Primary Camera on both the phones was equally good in terms of clarity but photos from Samsung Galaxy J7 were more natural than Moto G4 Plus. Talking about the front camera , Moto G4 Plus has a better Front Camera as compared to the Galaxy J7 in terms of the overall clarity and naturality of the colors.

Hardware, Storage and OS

The Moto G4 Plus is powered by a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor and Adreno 405 GPU. In terms of memory and storage it comes in two variants, one with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB of internal storage and the other with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage. On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy J7 is powered by a 1.6 GHz Octa-core processor with Exynos 7870 chipset. It comes with 2GB of RAM and 16 GB internal storage.

In terms of operating system, both the devices feature Android OS, v6.0.1 Marshmallow.

 

Battery and Other Features

The Moto G4 Plus is backed by a Non-removable 3000 mAh Li-Ion battery. On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy J7 is backed by a Removable 3300 mAh Li-Ion battery. So on the battery front Samsung Galaxy J7 is better because it has a removable battery with more capacity.

Talking about other features Moto G4 Plus has a Fingerprint sensor, Gyroscope and ambient light sensors, which are missing in Samsung Galaxy J7. On the other hand Samsung Galaxy J7 comes with the S Bike Mode that is not present in Moto G4.

Price and Availability

Moto G4 Plus is priced at Rs. 13,499 (16 GB) and 14,999 (32 GB). The phone is available on Amazon India in Black and White color. On the other hand Samsung Galaxy J7 is priced at Rs. 15,990 and it is available on Flipkart in Black, White and Gold color.

Conclusion

To sum up, Moto G4 Plus has a Lighter body, Gorilla Glass 3 protection, Better Display, Better Front camera, Fingerprint Sensor, Gyroscope and Ambient & Light Sensors. On the other hand Samsung Galaxy J7 has a Premium build quality, Thin body, Better Rear camera, Removable battery and S Bike mode. The above mentioned features can be considered according to your own personal choice, but price of the two phones can be a deciding factor. The Samsung Galaxy J7 is priced at Rs. 15,990, whereas Moto G4 Plus with same 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage is priced at Rs. 13,499 only.
