Samsung Galaxy A8+ vs OnePlus 5T: Which One to Buy?

Samsung has released a new addition to Galaxy A series smartphones, the Galaxy A8+. This smartphone comes with a total design overhaul compared to previous Galaxy A series smartphones. It comes with an 18:5.9 display and dual selfie cameras. The price of the Galaxy A8+ is Rs. 32,990 and available exclusively on Amazon store.

Late last year, OnePlus also launched its latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 5T, which comes with an 18:9 ratio display and a dual rear camera setup. The OnePlus 5T comes with the most recent Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and 6GB/8GB RAM. The base price of this smartphone is Rs 32,999 and is available on Amazon India.

Both the smartphones comes with full view display, and the price of both smartphones is about the same. If you are skeptical about buying one of these two smartphones, then allow me to remove the confusion and compare these two smartphones.

Design and Display

Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus (2018)

The Samsung Galaxy A8+ is slightly bigger and approximately 1mm thicker than the OnePlus 5T. The Samsung Galaxy A8+ is all glass body with aluminum frame for reducing weight and improving the overall strength of the smartphone. The fingerprint sensor is rear mounted just below the camera module. The Galaxy A8+ comes with the IP68 water and dust resistant protection while OnePlus does not provide any protection from water or dust.


On the other hand, the OnePlus 5T comes with a full aluminum body which makes it approximately 30 grams lighter than the Galaxy A8+.

The display on the Galaxy A8+ is a 6 inches Super AMOLED panel with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio and FHD+ resolution. Whereas the OnePlus 5T comes with a 6 inches Optic AMOLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio and FHD+ resolution. In regular usage, both the screens are almost similar with slight color profile variations, if any.

Performance

The OnePlus 5T is no doubt the winner here because it features the latest flagship chipset from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 835. And with up to 8GB of RAM support, this smartphone is a beast; the storage is 128GB which is not expandable. It comes with a 3300 mAh battery which provides fantastic performance with Dash Charge support.

The Samsung Galaxy A8+ comes with Exynos 7885 octa-core processor with up to 6GB RAM. The internal storage is 32GB/64GB which is also expandable up to 128GB via micro SD card. The Galaxy A8+ won’t be able to provide the same performance as OnePlus 5T but won’t let you down at gaming or multitasking.

The Galaxy A8+ is backed by a 3500 mAh battery with fast charging feature and expected to provide you a decent battery performance.

Overall, the OnePlus 5T is the clear winner in terms of performance.

Camera

The OnePlus 5T comes with a dual camera setup at the rear which includes a 20MP sensor and one 16MP sensor with f/1.7 aperture size and EIS for stabilization. It supports 4K video recording at 30 fps frame rate with EIS stabilization support. The front-facing camera is a 16MP sensor with 1080p video recording support.

The Samsung Galaxy A8+ comes with a 16MP primary camera with 1080p video recording support and f/1.7 aperture. The front-facing camera is a dual camera setup which includes a 16MP sensor and one 8MP sensor with 1080p video recording support.

Wrapping up

Samsung has its own reputation for quality and performance while the OnePlus 5T provides the best hardware at a low price. If you are a brand-conscious person then you may go for the Samsung Galaxy A8+ which will provide you a decent performance with amazing glass body design.

However, if you are looking at the overall value for money, performance and camera quality, the OnePlus 5T is in the lead. Both the smartphones are Amazon-exclusive devices.
