Samsung launched its new Galaxy M series in India with two new phones. The Galaxy M20 is one of the new phones from the series that is launched in the budget segment with features like Infinity V FHD+ display, dual rear cameras, and a big battery.
The Galaxy M20 has been launched by Samsung in order to compete in the budget smartphone segment. One such competitor is the Realme U1, which comes with an impressive selfie camera and other good specs at the same price range.

The Samsung Galaxy M20 comes with a plastic body and its polycarbonate back panel has a glossy finish. While the Realme U1 also sports a plastic rear panel but that comes with a laminated technology that makes it look like glass.
Up front of the Galaxy M20, there is a waterdrop notch display which the company calls ‘Infinity V’ display. The Realme U1 also sports a small dewdrop notch. This means both the phones have a small notch on top of the panel and offer a full-screen display with minimal bezels.
There are some things common between the two phones like dual rear cameras, back-mounted fingerprint sensors, and headphone jacks. However, the M20 has an advantage in terms of the USB port as it comes with a Type-C connector that offers faster charging and data transfer than the micro USB port present on the U1.
Display
The Galaxy M20 has a 6.3-inch TFT display with an FHD+ resolution (2340×1080 pixels). It sports 19.5:9 aspect ratio so there are fewer bezels and a small chin. The full-screen display offers better viewing angles and has good brightness too. It is protected by Asahi glass dragon trail pro.

The Realme U1 features a similar 6.3-inch IPS LCD display with FHD+ (2350×1080 pixels) screen resolution. It also sports 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 90.5 percent screen to body ratio that is why it has fewer bezels. The display is bright enough for all lighting conditions and the colors and daylight visibility is also good.
Cameras
The dual rear camera setup on the Galaxy M20 has a 13MP main sensor and 5 MP ultra wide-angle secondary sensor. It allows you to click ultra-wide shots and also offers dense bokeh in portrait shots. It has an 8MP front camera. The Galaxy M20 cameras support Live focus mode, AR stickers, Pro mode, and Beauty modes.

The Realme U1 also has a dual rear camera setup with a 13MP main sensor and a 2MP secondary depth sensor. It also comes with modes like portrait and some AI based features. The 25MP front camera on the U1 is its biggest highlight. The Realme U1’s front camera offers good selfies with features like Backlight mode, AI Beauty+ mode etc.

Performance
The Galaxy M20 is powered by Samsung’s 1.8GHz octa-core Exynos 7904 14nm processor with a Mali-G71 MP2 GPU. While the Realme U1 packs MediaTek’s latest Helio P70 12nm processor which is clocked at 2.1GHz and has a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. Both the phones come with 3GB or 4GB RAM and 32GB or 64GB of storage. Performance wise, Helio P70 offer better results than Exynos chipset.

On the software front, the Galaxy M20 runs Android 8.1 Oreo with Samsung Experience 9.5 UI on top. The UI which is pretty lightweight and does not come with much bloatware except some Microsoft apps. Also, it will possibly get a Pie update in coming months.
The Realme U1 runs Oppo’s ColorOS 5.2 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo. This software also comes with several features like gesture navigation, gaming mode, split-screen multitasking, and more.
Battery
Powering the new Samsung Galaxy M20 is a massive 5,000mAh battery. It also comes with the benefit of 15W fast charging support with its USB Type-C port. The battery on the Realme U1 is a 3,500mAh unit that supports only 10W fast charging. So, Galaxy M20 becomes a clear winner in this segment.
Verdict
At the starting price of Rs. 10,990, the Galaxy M20 is a solid offering to the people looking for an affordable smartphone. The Realme U1 at Rs. 11,999 starting price also comes with some great features like an impressive selfie camera and powerful hardware. However, the M20 could surely be a better choice if you want an all-rounder budget smartphone with a good display, impressive cameras, and an excellent battery life.
