Xiaomi released the Redmi 6 Pro recently, this is the same smartphone which was released as the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite globally. The only difference other than the name of the device is that the Redmi 6 Pro comes preinstalled with MIUI 9.5. The smartphone comes with a notch on the display making it the first Xiaomi smartphone with notch display.

The Redmi 6 Pro goes on sale today at a starting price of Rs 10,999 onwards. Here we are comparing the device with the Xiaomi‘s best seller smartphone of the year; Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. Let’s see if the 18:9 can beat the latest 19:9 aspect ratio notch display.

Build and Design

The Redmi 6 Pro comes with an aluminum matte colored back panel with plastic caps at the top and the bottom. The smartphone features all the buttons and ports in a familiar way; the power button and volume rocker are on the right side. The micro USB port is on the bottom with a loudspeaker, the 3.5mm audio port is on the top side with IR blaster and SIM card tray slot is on the right.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with the same kind of design strategy, with an aluminum back and plastic caps. The smartphone comes with the similar buttons and port fashion as the Redmi 6 Pro and the same number of the ports as well.

In comparison, the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro (8.8 mm thickness) is a lot chunky than the Redmi note 5 Pro (8.1 mm thickness. The weight of both the smartphones are almost similar; Redmi Note 5 Pro is 181 grams whereas Redmi 6 Pro is 178 grams.

Display: Notch trend

The display on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is a 6.99 inches FHD+ 1080 x 2160 with an 18:9 aspect ratio. Whereas the display on the Redmi 6 Pro is a 5.8 inches FHD+ 1080 x 2280 IPS LCD panel which comes with a 19:9 aspect ratio because of the notch support.

Some of the differences between these two displays are; first of all, the notch is the new trend so Redmi 6 Pro leaves Redmi Note 5 Pro behind. Secondly, the Redmi 6 Pro’s display is a bit smaller (5.84 inches) than the Redmi Note 5 Pro’s (5.99 inches) display. The aspect ratio is also different in both smartphones; Redmi 6 Pro has a 19:9 aspect ratio whereas Redmi Note 5 Pro has 18:9 aspect ratio.

Camera: Same specs, different results

The Redmi 6 Pro and the Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with the similar specs dual camera set up at the back which includes a 12MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture and a 5MP depth sensor. The rear camera in both is capable of 1080p FHD videos at 30fps and the Redmi 6 Pro comes with gyro EIS stabilization which is absent in Redmi Note 5 Pro.

The selfie camera is a lot different in both of these smartphones; the Redmi note 5 Pro comes with a 20MP selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture whereas the Redmi 6 Pro comes with a 5MP selfie shooter with f/2.0 aperture. Performance: Snapdragon 625 vs Snapdragon 636

Now comes an important aspect of a smartphone on which the performance depends upon; the processor. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor which is the latest processor to find on a smartphone whereas the Redmi 6 Pro comes with a Snapdragon 625 processor.

In comparison, both the smartphones ran smoothly in our testing because both come with the lightweight MIUI 9.6 on top of the Android 8.1 Oreo. The gaming is the part where you can see that the Redmi Note 5 Pro outperforms the Redmi 6 Pro easily. If you are into gaming and stuff then Redmi Note 5 Pro is the best choice.

Conclusion

Both the smartphones are good at its own place but when it comes to performance and the camera quality, the Redmi Note 5 Pro outperforms the Redmi 6 Pro with a huge margin. But at the same time, the Redmi Note 5 Pro is a bit expensive than the Redmi 6 Pro. So, it is now up to yourself whether to go for the performance or the affordable option.
