Karbonn Titanium Dazzle 2 Unboxing, Review, Camera and Overview

Design, Build and Display

The Karbonn Titanium Dazzle 2, looks simple and sober if you glance at it head-on. The main design highlight is metal on side edges and on the rear side. Yuphoria made a big deal out of it, so perhaps yes it matters, but we certainly won’t be derisive of a well-crafted plastic phone in this budget.

The back cover isn’t entirely made from metal, but has a thin metal sheet glued on a plastic frame. This doesn’t matter much as you can still feel the metal on the outside, but makes the phone a bit heavy (161 grams). The handset is sturdy without any flexes or creeks. We won’t call it premium, but in light of the price tag, it’s hard to find fault with the external design.

The 5 Inch display has modest 480 x 854 pixel FWVGA resolution, which isn’t very sharp but is certainly usable. Viewing angles are not great and colors are a bit off. Touch responsiveness is good, but oleophobic coating to fight smudges is understandably missing. Quality is similar to other low cost IPS LCD panels, which means it is not stunningly gorgeous, but is good enough for browsing, basic social media usage and even to enjoy multimedia content. The software navigation keys below the display are not backlit.

Software

Karbonn Titanium Dazzle 2 offers Android 4.4.2 KitKat with light customizations. We couldn’t resist our impulses to download third party launcher and icon packs to modify aspects of UI Design we didn’t like. Icons and other aesthetics aren’t very pleasing (you need not worry as you can always use third party launchers), but if you navigate to the subsequent layers, it is mostly stock android.

Most of the preloaded apps can be disabled. Some apps like Flipkart, Clean Master, Hungama, Myntra, etc can also be uninstalled which is a good thing. Bloatware is not a problem on this device. The UI did stutter at times, but it is mostly light and efficient when it comes to performance.

Performance and Heating

Karbonn Titanium Dazzle 2 employs MediaTek MT6582 processor with Mali 400 GPU and 1 GB RAM, which is the best you can hope for in this budget. Performance is smooth for day to day usage and the phone can also handle a bit of high end gaming, though the smartphone isn’t meant for high end gaming, considering all aspects.

We didn’t observe any abnormal heating in Karbonn Titanium Dazzle 2. You don’t have to worry about heating in this device.

Camera and Internal Storage

It is hard to expect much from imaging hardware of an entry level smartphone and Karbonn Titanium Dazzle 2 isn’t holding any surprises here. The camera doesn’t focus very well and lots of noise creeps in even in normal lighting conditions. Daylight outdoor shots are much better. The low price equations comes into play here and if you are willing to invest a couple of thousand more, there are better alternatives available. Compared to other phones in the same price bracket, camera performance is one notch below Android One phones.

Out of 8 GB internal storage, 6 GB is available at user end. Unfortunately the storage is partitioned in two parts and only 1.4 GB is available for apps on the device. This limits long term usage and performance for those who like to download and use several apps. For secondary storage, you can use 32 GB MicroSD card slot. USB storage is listed under storage section, but USB OTG didn’t work on our review unit.

Battery and Other Features

Battery capacity is 2000 mAh and for basic users it will last for a day. There is not much drain when you are watching videos, but web browsing depletes battery at a faster rate. With a 2 Ampere charger, you can charge it quickly, but the one bundled in the box has 1 Ampere rating. Moderate and heavy users will struggle to reach one day mark. Battery performance is above average at this price range.

Call quality and output from the loudspeaker is average, but not great. You can also record cellular calls from the dialer and cellular video calling is also supported.

Conclusion

Karbonn Titanium S10 is a good smartphone if you are looking for something strictly in the vicinity of 5000 INR. Some compromises have been made to accommodate the price tag, but again, the smartphone has notable positives like sturdy metal build, good performance and above average battery backup. A slightly better camera module would have made it an easier recommendation for those not confined to aforementioned budget.
