Lenovo has refreshed its Yoga Tablet lineup and the new tablets follow the same design approach, but incorporate some much needed changes which we liked. The Yoga Tablet 2 8 inch is available with Android OS in India. The characteristic differentiating feature is the hinge which imparts it a folded book/magazine like form factor and also allows us to use it in several different modes. Let’s take a look.

Lenovo Yoga Android Tablet 2 8 Inch Hands on Review, Price, Camera, Features and Overview [Video]

Design, Build and Display

The new Yoga Tablet has a bigger stand which holds the tablet rather well compared to the last iteration. A new hang mode has been added besides Stand, Hold and Tilt mode. There is slit hole in the improved, bigger and more flexible kickstand, which can be used to hang it on a wall.

Dolby support loud speakers are positioned on either side of the hinge and are quite loud. Underneath the kickstand, you can remove part of back cover and house MicroSD card slot and SIM card. The new Kickstand with improved 6 point hinges is something we see ourselves using on a regular basis.

The 8 Inch IPS LCD display with 1920 x 1200 pixel full HD resolution, amounting to 283 ppi. The display is crisp and sharp with great viewing angles. On the whole Aluminum finished Yoga 2 Tablet has very practical, sturdy and attractive design and build.

Processor and RAM

image

The tablet runs on 1.8 GHz Intel Atom Z3745 quad core processor based on Baytrail architecture assisted by 2 GB RAM. The display is one of the best that we have seen in India so far. The same Chipset is present in all Lenovo Yoga 2 tablets and even Yoga Pro 2. We will test it more to find out how it will handle high end Android gaming and heavy lifting.

Camera and Internal Storage

The rear 8 MP shooter seemed average in quality, nothing outright impressive and the front 1.6 MP camera is quite decent in quality. Not many will be using the large 8 inch display device for primary photography and perhaps that’s why Lenovo hasn’t been very enthusiastic about it.

Internal storage is 16 GB and there is option for upto 64 GB Micro SD expansion. This should be good enough for most people.

User Interface and Battery

Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 8 inch will initially retail with Android 4.4 KitKat only in India. Windows 8.1 OS variant for productivity oriented users will be available at a later date.

The 6400 mAh battery inside will last for 15 hours of mixed usage, claims Lenovo. We will comment more on the back up after spending some more time with the device, but we are optimistic after spending initial time with the device.

Conclusion

Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 8 inch will appeal to users who like to read and watch multimedia content on their tablet. The tablet is very portable and will easily fit in your travel gear. Priced at 20,990 INR, it’s not the cheapest Android tablet you can buy, but is well build and feature rich to justify the price tag.
