LG has just launched the L40 at the MWC 2014 and will be the cheapest offering from the company in its line-up. At first glance, it looks like a pretty well sorted budget device and the same will come in dual as well as triple SIM versions. Let us take a look at its hands on review in order to understand if it is worth a shot for the first time smartphone adopters or the ones looking for a spare phone and don’t want to spend much.

Design and Build
The LG L40 comes with a rectangular design with dimensions of 109.4 x 59 x 11.9mm and the smartphone fits perfectly into your hand and single handed operations won’t be an issue.
It features a matte finish back which is good enough to provide you with a decent grip so it won’t slip out of your hands every now and then. The L40 comes with a good build quality for a budget device and even though it feels pretty light to hold, it does not feel cheap.
The display unit is a 3.5 inches one which has a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels and the small display size makes typing an issue and you often end up mis-typing. The display resolution reminds you of times when we first started to get touchscreen smartphones somewhere around 2006-07.
Camera and Internal Storage
If you are a photography buff, the L40 isn’t the one that you should be looking forth to. It gets a 3MP rear camera and misses out on a front camera altogether. We doubt if you’ll use the camera for anything more than a picture once in a blue moon.
The internal storage of the L40 stands at 4GB which will be available for expansion via a microSD card by another 32GB. We can’t really complain in this regard as this is pretty much what you get in a budget smartphone.
Battery, Operating System and Chipset
L40 will come with a choice of 1,700 mAh or a 1,540 mAh battery depending upon the regions and the same will easily last a day seeing the fact that it does not really have some power hungry specs to give juice to.
It runs on Android 4.4 KitKat which is the best thing about the L40. KitKat has been optimised to run on devices with 512MB of RAM so you won’t really find much lags in the device and it will run pretty smoothly if you don’t push it. LG has given the L40 a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor which provides a decent amount of processing power for the segment it will be present in.

The L40 is a good budget smartphone and its optional Triple SIM connectivity is one of the features that drive you towards the same. It won’t cost a bomb, runs the latest version of Android and will get the job done perfectly. Expect the same to launch soon in India.
