Oppo Joy Quick Review, Price and Comparison

Oppo, a smartphone manufacturer based in China is highly reputed for its high-end offerings that fall in the Find lineup. With the intention to grab the sales happening in the low-end market segment, the vendor seems to have announced the Oppo Joy, a dual SIM phone. As of now, the company has launched the handset for the Indonesian market for a price of IDR 1,699,000 (approx. Rs 8,900) with no word on the global availability and pricing. Now, let us take a look at the quick review of the Oppo Joy purely based on its specifications.

Camera and Internal Storage

Oppo Joy features a 3 MP primary camera clubbed with LED flash for basic photography and there is also a VGA front-facing snapper that will help in video calling. Though there is nothing exceptional in the photography segment, these figures are on par with the other entry-level offerings.

To meet the storage needs of the users, there is a low 4 GB of storage that cannot house all the apps and the operating system. For this, Oppo has included a micro SD card slot in the handset that can support up to 32 GB of additional storage. Though there is an expansion card slot, the 4 GB of storage is too low and it could be a serious issue for the low in-built storage haters.

Processor and Battery

Again, in terms of raw hardware, the Oppo Joy is an average performer and it is equipped with a dual-core ARM Cortex A7 processor ticking at 1.3 GHz. This processor is coupled with a Mali 400 GPU and a mere 512 MB of RAM. Considering these aspects, the smartphone cannot handle superior levels of multi-tasking for sure, but it should be acceptable as it is a low-level phone.

Battery capacity onboard is a 1,700 mAh battery whose backup remains undisclosed, but it should be able to deliver good enough backup to the handset. However, it would have been great if Oppo had included an increased battery capacity.

Display and Features

Oppo Joy flaunts a 4 inch WVGA capacitive touch screen display packing a resolution of 480×800 pixels sounds pretty average. Interestingly, the display supports a ‘Gloves Mode’ technology that allows users to handle the screen even while wearing their gloves.

On the software front, the Oppo Joy runs on Android 4.2 based Colors OS that optimizes the Swype keyboard and RAM alongside improving the system stability.

In addition, there is a Quick Reach mode in the platform that will allow users to create a pattern on the display and tap on it twice to launch the apps easily. They can also customize the patterns with the gesture panel.

Connectivity is handled by Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, GPS and dual SIM card slots that ensures that the users stay connected all the time.

Comparison

The Oppo Joy will compete with Micromax Canvas Elanza, Xolo A600 and Intex Aqua i4+.

Price and Conclusion

The Oppo Joy seems to be a welcome entry-level phone, it would be a great option for those consumers who are planning to upgrade to a smartphone for the first time. But, Oppo has missed in some aspects such as good camera capabilities, increased native storage space and improved battery capacity.
